Kato Broadway Limited Question
« on: July 09, 2014, 06:17:25 PM »

Hey guys, I'm thinking about picking up a Broadway Limited from Kato to use the 4 10-6's to repaint into N&W colors.  The rest of the train I plan on repainting into PC green.  So far I've only found a pic of a B70M in green.  Does anyone know if the rest of the cars in the set were repainted into PC green, or at least cars within the same class?  Any pics would be very appreciated, thanks for any help!

There are shots of RAPIDS and FALLS cars in the PC Color Guide - but - and I am sure Bryan or others can set you on the correct path...

I don't think PC passenger cars were PC Green - they were another green color.  I stand corrected if I am wrong....

AFAIK the PC green for box cars was Jade green, the green for coaches was Hunter green (or silver).

They already have a 4 car PC set with correctly painted and named cars.

Yeah I know about the PC set, i just would'nt want six Broadway Limited cars to go to waste, and I really like PC passenger trains! :D I'm not sure as to which green I would paint the cars with as I prefer a darker green then Kato's green.  I'd like the paint to match IM's green on their PC passenger equipment.

You'd have to research each car to see what its final fate was.  As evident in the Kato PC set, the cars ended up in a myriad of patch-out and/or repaint schemes.

Deepwater Green is the proper color for Penn Central.  Jade (actually Century) Green was associated with New York Central.  Hunter Green was associated with New Haven.  Contact the PCHS for Scalecoat I or II paint in bottles or rattle-cans that is the exact color match for PC and best option.

Bryan,  Scalecoat is now listing PC green (the lighter freight car color - Deepwater Green) as a product again in the Scalecoat II line...

(the PCHTS site is not updated to reflect this)

But neither Scalecoat or the PCHTS sells the passenger car color as far as I know.

AFAIK, there is no light and dark green.  It's Deepwater Green for everything.  Penn Central definitely did not utilize Hunter Green or any of the other greens affiliated with New Haven.

Deepwater Green... and dirt!!!

Its worth noting that there were a number of ex-PRR cars that retained their tuscan red while receiving either yellow or white PC lettering.  Not nearly as numerous as those painted in Deepwater Green but they were a part of how PC dealt with rebranding.

Two different colors,  I am 100% sure.  This is not the same color as the freight cars.

I'm not a set collector and buy whatever cars fit my specific consist needs, even if they are a part of a set. The unneeded cars get put up for sale on eBay individually; I've had very good luck getting good prices especially for cars otherwise unavailable individually. Ones that don't seem to sell for a decent recoupment price become cores for custom sides. ...

Pretty sure it was the same, other than the odd paint job here and there.  I just emailed the PCHS president to get confirmation one way or the other.

Bryan, a quick look at the PC Color Guide and I'm inclined to agree with Lou.  The passenger cars were a darker green with much less blue in them.  That's not to say PC was very standardized of course!  I'm sure they used whatever they had (most of which seemed to wash off in a heavy rain).

The B60M car was jade green (CFG - PRR Baggage Car 9312)
the Chip. Creek car also made it to jade green (CFG - PRR Chip Creek 8369)
if you want pics, PM me.

AFAIK the Falls cars didn't make it to green.  PC sold 'em as is, fully loaded, in Tuscan livery straight out of the Chicago yard.
