I wonder how long have they been using it? Is that mainline trackage or a siding? Rails look awfully shiny.

Other than the track work, everything else looks pretty normal and could be somewhere here in the states.

Wellllll... it's not N scale (nobody being sorrier about it than I!), but I have to share a model acquisition this week that has been many years in the trying and failing: the über-rare Alco Models HO C855B. I paid entirely too much for it on theBay - don't tell my wife! - but this shelf queen is finally added to my collection of other Alco Models shelf queens of 1960s UP double power.





I've had an "A" for many years, but the B has been oh-so-elusive. FWIW, Overland also produced the C855A & B, but in ten years I have seen a pair exactly once, eventually going for well over a K-buck on eBay.

Ahh, the "Y-Tie": steel, efficient, recyclable; rusting easily, high maintenance, lightweight.... works in Europe, wouldn't want to run an SD70 ACe on it... :facepalm:

855's used the standard and or the Veranda chassis / trucks IIRC . So why in all that is a money maker did Con-Cor not do the standard Turbine and the 855's shells ?

'Cause there's no explaining Jim Conway's approach to the N marketplace. I'm thankful he took the risks he did in the early days, but it's been one helluva ride ever since. :|

Work is proceeding (slowly) on the Kraft mill...I cut up the basic walls and test fit everything.









I also built a single TrainCat tank car unloading platform...I really need two but they show as sold out on the web site.  Has anyone out there got one they can part with?



We also had our monthly Op session last night though it was all HO'ers this time round with no TRW members being available...

Are those toilette paper cores?  :trollface: :D

Almost- shipping tubes.  Doesn't everyone use toilet paper cores and spray bottle lids as stand-ins for tanks in building mock ups?

I used shipping tubes and industrial paper towel cores for some of my finished tanks.  I needed riveted metal plate tanks, had printed/embossed paper for the plates, so why not a paper core?  Made gluing real easy, and they were free. 

Toilet paper and most home paper towel cores are too flimsy for permanent use, but, yes, I have used them for stand-ins.

Richie:  I've seen lots of pictures of steel ties, and it looks like the right track has some at the lower end, but never anything like those Y-ties.  I can see the point, though, as they can't skew and change the gauge.  Like a 3-point track gauge, they HAVE to stay in place.
