Had a great time attending the convention with my North Raleigh Model Railroad Club brothers. Met up with many Railwire members during the Swap-a-rama, Eastern N Lines N-TRAK layout & other convention activities.
Best conversations took place during the room sales.....Also took a chance at the model contest and came home with these:



First Place Diorama - Scratch built firehouse




Third Place Freight Cars - Kit bashed DL&W Milk car

Great job Paul!

Good news, I got an email from one of my N Circus customers this morning. He's a T-Trak guy. Apparently he took Best of Show! I'm very happy for him and glad to have been a part of his awesome work. Would that be best of show for the WHOLE show or just the T-Trak division? Anyway, you guys probably saw it there and Congrats to Howard for a job well done!

Here are a few things to add to what Bryan has posted:

Pacific Western Rail Systems:  3-bay (shorter than their current cars) potash covered hoppers, and NSC 53-ft well car with containers and gen sets.

Atlas:  The Shay will return, but not with DCC from the factory. 

BLI:  The M1a will have a "Kato style" split frame drive similar to the old Con-Cor Hudson.

Intermountain:  Will be reintroducing, kits but only enough to cover what is preordered.  The new covered hopper is a 4750 cubic-foot car.

Deluxe Innovations:  The Maxi IV is very close to having all of the issues resolved, and hopefully the latest test shot will have it right.  A new 40-foot sheet-post container for those modeling "older" intermodal equipment.  Initially there will be four paint schemes for the Reach Stacker.

Interesting stuff, especially the buyout of someone by IMRC....   I believe they were already in a close agreement with Red Caboose and some of those models are currently in production....

Bowser would be interesting...   Another out of production line is Hubert/LBF but I thought there were issues that the tooling
was deteriorating or something???

Wow!  The well car is much needed (by me) and they should do a good job with it.  For those of us modeling modern intermodal, having only one 53' well style (Maxi-IV) is like having only one style of 50' box car - very artificial.   Now pardon my ignorance, but what are gen sets in this context?  Refrigeration units?

More hopper info is shown halfway down this page.  Very nice.

Lou's explanation matches what I understood the announcement to mean.  The "generator" will be housed in a 20 or 40 foot container. 

One of the model magazines had an article on K Line gen sets (or gensets) several years ago, but I cannot remember which magazine.

I missed the manufacturers breakfast, but picked up on a few more things to pass on...

Micro-Trains - next two SW1500's will be Reading and KCS.  They also announced an Area 51 trainset.  :P

Fox Valley - SD70ACe are in production, expect within next 2 months.  Matt hopes to have a sample of the Wagontop Caboose for NMRA, and assuming the samples are good they should be in stores by the end of the year.

Digitrax - New decoder for MT SW1500 is available now.  They also announced a DZ146IN; this adds two additional functions to the DZ126IN used in the FVM GEVO's via two wires (one on each side of the pins) fr things like ditch lights.

Intermountain - SD40-2 will use a Next18 plug on the light board, into which the DCC and/or sound decoders will be plugged.  SD40-2 will us ESU decoders (at least initially), with the sound units using the LokSound Select Micro and the DCC the LokPilot Micro.  Units will have ditchlights if the prototype had them.  Three batches have been announced (24 total roadnames/paint schemes); no more will be announced until the first batch arrives in stores.

KATO - FEF-3 is coming.  They will also be doing the UP Business train; the representative said they had to tool 3 new cars for the trains, but the only one I remember is the generator car.

North American Freight Car - The had samples of the N-scale magnetic brake line hoses, which are now available.

Atlas - Plans to do another run of Shay's next year.  July-Dec catalog has been sent to the printers and should be available at NMRA.

Next years convention is in Sacramento.

That laser kit of the Lackawanna's Binghamton station could almost get me to shift my modeling locale 150 miles eastward. Although, Mr. Wallet (if not my fiancee) may have something to say about that...   :P
