With the discussion that Bestine is being discontinued at Michael's, I went over to my local store to check the status out.  The manager did not know what I was talking about until I mentioned that it came in a metal car.  Then she found it for me.  The had 3 cans at $4.99 each, regularly $16.99 each.  So I bought all three.  Probably a lifetime supply, at least for me.

I strongly disagree.

Naphtha (such as the VM&P Naphtha or Ronsonol Ligher Fluid) leaves absolutely no residue.

There are many forms of Naptha, and not all behave the same way.

Alright, I thought that Naphtha was naphta, but I'm not chemist. I can only comment on what I have personally used.
I use it to remove Alps MD printer ink from misprinted decal sheets.  I also use it as a degreaser for model locomotive mechanisms.

Hmm... Kiz bought a
Naphtha alternator for
his car, but it evaporated
before he could install it...

No Dee, that's NAPA.
Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Gasoline has octane.  Heptane is the next hydrocarbon down from that.  What if I soaked them in gasoline?

More seriously, is heptane as explosive as gasoline, or (potentially) as carcinogenic?

More explosive than gasoline. Heptane is the opposite of octane in blending gasoline. Purified heptane is the reference for zero octane number, where octane is added to ******** burning to control pre-ignition, a/k/a "knocking".

Here's one for you, I use GooGone over night and then scrub the shell with any cheap toothpaste and a toothbrush....Have not had any problems with paint sticking or drying, plus it helps  smooth the surface.....go figure.

Not exactly conducive to the preservation of parts that are delicate or intricate or with high relief.

Mike:  Thank you.  Not sure I want the stuff inside, even if it is in a metal can...

I assume that you are strictly water-based paint user?   No Dio-Sol or lacquer thinner in your hobby arsenal? I suspect that even acetone in nail polish removal is more explosive than heptane.  Then there are people who carry Zippo lighters (filled with highly flammable naphtha) in their pants pockets.  Go figure.... :|

Hey guys, I've got a quart on the way I got off Amazon.  With shipping I got it for about $15, much cheaper than getting Bestine off the bay! :scared:  I'm planning on soaking my two models while I'm at work.  I guess a normal plastic container should be enough to soak them in.  I just hope it gets here soon!

I use Bestine...because it works...plain and simple...
I don't have to scrub, rinse, or do anything after the fact...for the FUD 'wax' or whatever it's being called...
Bestine works

High Hood, use a glass jar like a coffee jar or an old oven dish with lid to reduce or eliminate evaporation.
Also note that some plastic containers are made of materials that are semi permeable membranes under exposure to certain classes of solvent.
