I looked at the rest of your shop and like some of your traction models as well... too bad you don't have any Pacific Electric juice jacks 8)
Otto K.

The pacific electrics are somewhere on the list [which gets longer every day] along with CA&E and some more TMER&L

so i tried to buy a 12 pack and i see it says "not for sale"

am i doing something wrong?

i admit, i am not logged into Shapeways... but that shouldn't affect whether it is "for sale" or not.

Just curious

Hi all

Because this to Shapeways is technically a "new" model they look at it before printing even though it has passed all the automated tests and exactly the same cart has been printed before, but they do not know that because it is a different model.

This is where it becomes a total pest, I will look at adding 0.1mm to the uprights and they potentially could not print it again by finding another part that is pushing the specification. I will contact them first though to see if they will print them as is.

Because it will not print Shapeways remove it from sale which is what I have done with the others.

This is where I and a lot of other designers lose interest since we are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, having to meet Shapeways specification and what the expectations of what "technically" customers want, it makes me think why bother. [rant over]

Sorry got to go to work so I can subsidise this hobby of ours.

I had a similar episode with my phone booths.  First test was relatively easy, accepted, printed, looked great, hey, what's all the fuss about?

Made a 3-peat of the SAME DRAWING, and put it in to production to lower the per-booth cost.

Fail.  Refund.

ran the error checking again, resubmitted it....

Fail.  Refund.  Said the windows weren't printable.  THEY ARE HOLES.  Even on the Shapeways rendering they were open and you could see through them.

try again.

Fail.  Same deal, window element with zero depth.  This time I start getting testy, don't want the refund, take a look at the two models and just tell me what is different.

Accept.  Print.  Go.    No explanation, but it works.

Hi guys

I think what the issue is that as designers we get the opportunity to PIA [print it anyway] i.e. we pay the cost even if the model fails. Now since I did my test print in the 2 carts and used PIA, as you can see it worked perfectly, but the multipack is classed as a new model so it goes through a final checking procedure even though the carts printed ok.

The cart is pushing the limits of what is printable and I am still having a couple of thoughts before I jump in, the problem is the uprights at the cart ends, they are 0.4mm thick and it all depends on how you interpret the design guidelines when a wire becomes a wall.

My initial thoughts are to increase to 0.5mm which I do not think will detract from the model, it will make it slightly stronger even though I painted mine without any problems.

I will keep everybody updated here since it seems an item quite a few are interested in.

Hi all

I have now had the carts printed successfully twice so there should be no more problems.

The solution is that not to offer multiple versions of the same product as every version has to go through the checking process even though a similar model has been printed before.

Well Alexander,
If at first you don't succeed.... :o
Order placed, again. Hope this time it works, it's definitely a greatly needed item. If these work, I may order another dozen or two; I have a good sized passenger depot on my layout (San Bernardino).
Thank you very much for making these available at such a reasonable price.
Kind regards,
Otto K.

Thanks Otto.

I think I was trying to be all things to all people by offering different quantities but what shapeways do is class each quantity as a different model so when they printed one amount that was ok and would get reprinted again without any checking but when a different quantity was ordered it was classed as a new model and went through the checking process and somebody else viewed it that it would not print, anyway I seem to have got there and now will only offer a model for print that I know will print if I have not done a test print first.
