Here's a prototype Control Panel (very close to the production models).  The Operator control is a single selector switch to choose an Inbound or Outbound route.  All turnout alignment and power routing is done with really logic, all "below deck".   Kudos to Al Turnbull for the fabrication of Control Panel.

Wow!!! Even I can figure out how to work that.
We'll need all that really logic to do the scenery

Hope you had a progressive work session today.

One route in mind, one hand on the knob, turn knob till lights show you the way.
Just like OBY (old Ballard Why) except more lights and animation.

Yah shure, yah betcha.

I'm not sure on how many we have, but we may have some extra logo decals. I'm going to put some on the Mt line bridges on the Why.
Stay tuned, I'll let you know. Of course proprietary copyright and licensing  laws apply, kinda like UPS.   ;)

No worries. I don't like to have a ton of fictional lines running around my pike, but a boxcar repaint or two seem fun.

East Why Update

Wiring on the second half of the Why is catching up with the first.  About 80% done, awaiting Control Panels.
Another trip to the car parts store for more wire, we're up to about (12) of the 40 ft packages, plus all the zip cord for bus wiring.

Next up:  installing the Control Panel on the West Why and running trains!!

Looking good! Let me know when you're ready to start doing scenery, If I'm off work, I'll help. Fair warning though, my scenery skills are kinda lacking.

hey Mike, no worries.  Do you know how to run a 3 inch belt sander?  (kind of an inside joke, you'll have to ask the Gentlemen from Rochester)

Welcome aboard, all volunteers are gladly accepted.  We keep thinking that completion is just within our grasp, then realize there's more wiring to do.

I think that it's still Red on Red, Black on Black, but I think we missed a wire . . . .

How come it seems like there is more wires on this one? Take your time, do it right, it might be bare plywood at the museum this year, but that'll be OK.
Mike, I will be taking my instructions from Mr. Younkins on scenery, he's actually the master of the 3" belt sander.
I'll let you know when we get a chance to work on it if the sparkenmeisters ever give it up.
I just want to know if the signal system is wired in, too :D
JRB, I just noticed a up5 panel mounted in the skyboard area, What gives? Now I'll have to make more sawdust

Since we stepped up the display with all those LED's, what we didn't fully realize (at least I didn't fully realize) is that for every "little winkie light" there are at least two wires.  And the supporting logic.

Back in the last century when I built Ballard Why 1.0, life and control panels were simpler.
*OBY v1.1 only had six switchers and five relays per side and used Peco crossings instead of double slip switches.
*OBY v1.2 added the Hazelton Yard w/ the yard Throat, Balloon, and all its tortoise, LED's, and wiring
*OBY v1.2 replaced the crossings with Moving Point Crossings, adding six tortoise per side and a bunch of little wires
*OBY v1.3 added another four relays per side and the Fitzpatrick signals

For NBY v2.0 all these versions are combined into one Big Bang Build, instead of being spread out over ten years.  I think some might call that "Progress".

Signals:  We are prewired for signal control, these can be transferrred from OBY v1 when Al and I get out of the Home for Misplaced Electricians.

UP-5's  -- Whoops, of course that's the skyboard area.  Thanks for the catch.
We put it there for convenience of the train drivers.  Let's chat about alternatives.

NBY frame is a good place for a UP5, each side. I would put them outboard away from the control panel a few feet out. This way no interference
with Yardmaster on Duty. I can cut a hole (a nice hole) in the skyboard to access the UP5 so it can stay on the main NBY frame. When I cut and mount the skyboard for
temporary scenery purposes, they then need to be removed and sent to
Diane to be painted. Present UP5 hole can be covered with the skyboard.
When you and Al are recovering at the home, I'll be sure to sneak in some Lutefisk Samages for ya!
