Random thoughts about the MT Mail Car

Well, three months of work has yielded a webpage that I can be proud of, though there are still some small issues I will need to fix.  This page offers ideas on building other cars from the MT RPO and I hope that you all will fined it of use.  I, myself, will be pursuing some of these very kitbashings for my freelanced lines and I hope that others will try some as well and share their results.  Here is the link...

Claus Schlund bashed two of these together for a PRR M70a RPO.
The article can be found on page 22 of issue 78 of The Keystone Modeler.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Interesting that you bring this up. I was just looking at using one of these to bash a CN RPO 7806 and 7805. These two cars were frequently on the Montrealer that ran on the CV. The only problem is I need to wait for MT to do a full baggage to do it.

I have wanted to find out if the Wheels of Time 70' baggage  letterboard, beltrail and the height of the sides matches the MT RPO because that could also open up some possibilities but so far I haven't been able to get an answer on this.

Slight bugs in the web page -- the "Notes" column is 4 or more lines higher than the "Road Number" column. Right now a user can just count up 4 lines to match the road name with the notes.

Well, the Notes doesn't seem to line up with any of the fields on the left.  Then if you reduce width of the browser window, the notes start spreading further down (since the lines start wrapping), getting more out of alignment with the fields in the left side columns.  Assuming that each of the Notes entries is supposed to be aligned with the fields on the left....  If not, this is not a problem.

You might want to keep in mind that not everybody views that web page on a 1920x1080 monitor.

Neither do I.  There is no set size for the table used for the roster, just a simple command for the table to be 100% irregardless of the span of the window (though it is possible that on smaller resolutions some of the "Notes" entries could be causing it.  Could one of you folks take a screen shot and send it to me?  It might help me to figure out what the problem is.

Here's what it looks like with a full-screen browser window -

Here's what it looks like with a smaller browser window -

Not having the notes issue, but Wheels of Time for the link to his blog has a typo.

Great work on this!

I just checked it and the link takes you to the blog entree "More of Robert Diepenbrock's Harriman Headend Cars" like it should.

Will see about getting the longer notes chopped so that they won't throw the Notes off.  Also need to make a correction with the C&EI entree.

Even in the wide-window the Notes lines seem to be shifted about half a line down (or up?) in reference to the other fields to the left of notes.  Is that intentional?

Also Jerry, what exactly does "irregardles" mean?  :?

There is a fix for the misaligned table lines. It's tedious, but it constitutes the "proper" way of building tables in HTML: each line item should occupy one table row. Using line breaks within columns to align rows of text will not work (unless you tag the cells with "nowrap," in which case the tables may cause horizontal scrolling on lower-res screens).

Don't get all pedantic, Peteski. Like it or not, this is a real word. And I think you know what it means...
