Just thought I'd mention... I was at Michaels today and saw Bestine with a red tag on it. Looked closer it was on clearance for $4.99, down from $16.99    So I bought 2 more for less than my first one was.

Confirm. I bought the last pint at our local Michael's today for $4.99. They will not be restocking this product.

What I found odd, however, is that Best-Test rubber cement is still a stock item, at full price. Just not the thinner for it.

They probably just weren't selling enough Bestine to justify keeping it in stock.

Sending pictures of the issue with your inquiry should garner a response. Not that they don't believe you, but OTOH...

Are you talking about the "viens" you posted at Trainboard?  If so you could probably scrape those flat.

The photos are the first I've seen of this shell cleaned and compared to some Shapeways stuff I've seen, yours looks pretty good.

Yes Chris, that's it, the veins; I didn't coin the term but is seems to describe the shape of the protrusions fairly well except they are on the surface. I did try to scrape them off, and then filed and sanded, but of course that obliterated the underlying detail...doors and hinges, so it's a less than ideal fix. For 47 bucks, I'd prefer to get a shell without the problem. I've attempted to contact Shapeways multiple times (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday) through their "help center/support" link with no response. I don't get it, everyone tells me they have great support. Is there another way to get hold of them?

Hello all,

Right I have had more than several requests now for etched brass handrails for my models, and...................................Yes I am going to do it.  I have hooked up with a company over here in the UK to do the actual etching; I’ll be doing the art work of course.

I will be starting with DT6-6-2000 (and the DT6-6-2400 which will be available soon). This will take a few weeks to work it all out and get a test done but I am feeling positive about it all.  I don' know prices for you yet but it won’t be much for an individual set of rails.  Also postage can be low, even to New Zealand, as these parts are light and small.

My plan is to continue to offer complete 3D printed shells for those who want them and an 'Additions Series' of kits which will part 3D printed and part etched brass for those that want to go a step further.   The brass parts will need to be ordered from me directly and the 3D printed shells will come from Shapeways.

So, if you are interested let me know, and watch this space.

James, great news! That's just what this otherwise very nice model needs! I was going to fabricate my own, but this is a much better (and much easier) solution.

Yes, agreed. It's handrail fabrication that is delaying my working on the DD35s and the UP excursion tenders. I have the bits to build handrails lying about somewhere in my modeling raw materials stash. The operative word there is "somewhere"...
