Love it!  And with the weight you've added it has a chance at decent performance.  Nice work! 8)

Mmm Tamiya Panzer Grey.

Nowhere close to the real Dunkelgrau its supposed to represent. But is an a great replacement for the model master grimy black.

I went with the Vallejo “Panzer Grey” rather than the Tamiya. Turned out I was out of Tamiya black, so I’m glad I had picked up the Vallejo rattle can.

With as much weight as I’ve put inside the body of the engine, it runs very well. And if I really wanted to there is still room for more. But honestly I’m pretty pleased with how it’s running. I even noticed after I reassembled the engine that I’ve put enough miles on it to where it’s due for a wheel cleaning.

Glad this project is still alive and well!

It almost wasn’t cause I lost the screws to mount the body onto the chassis. Found one, and basically had to make another by cutting half the length off of a 1/8” 00-90 round head screw.

Did this about a couple weeks ago, but never got around to posting the picture.
I have 5 of the long-wheelbase tipper wagons that @narrowminded made, along with his scale link-and-pin couplings. I was trying to devise a way to create a scale hook to fit into one of the tipper wagons and a hook for the Plymouth so that all my rolling stock would be interchangeable, but after examining things I determined that I would be better off just putting a coupling pocket on the Plymouth.

So, a few bits of whatever size styrene C-channel I had lying around and some phosphor-bronze wire for a long pin and I ended up with a decent triple-stacked coupler pocket on the rear of the Plymouth and I can now run a much more “generic” train until I get around to making the layout more distinctively Irish.

As time allows I have a few details planned that will really set the tone of the layout and make it undeniably a slice of Ireland. It’s just a matter of doing some planning as to how best to make them.

It's pretty cool to see those cars with your Plymouth on a layout. 8)  I'll eventually have more varieties of rolling stock and I do have some functioning dummy knuckle couplers for those if you ever want to couple to a regular "Z"/ Nn3 coupler.  They are a step up design to align with regular "Z" height couplers and install individually with the existing pins so you could also install one on just one end as an adapter car.  Love it! :)

I have some of your dummy knuckles as well, but all my other Nn3 stock has UK-style coupling hooks that get scale sized 3-links (of chain, essentially), so in order to run these with any of my other stock I’d need some kind of hook adapter that would also make up the height difference. With this quick and dirty triple-pocket on the Plymouth it gives me an easy train to run since I plan on keeping the tippers coupled together all the time.

What I really need is a cheaper alternative to the modified Märklin chassis that I have been using under my “Irish” stock. Something that works out to the same height and takes a similar sized wheel so that it matches what I already have. I used to be able to pick up the little Marklin ballast cars for $10-$15 on eBay here and there, but anymore they’re $25-$30 and that’s a lot to pay just to scavenge and butcher the chassis.

Once I get some final details in place on this layout I’m thinking of moving forward to a more prototypical layout that focuses on either the Schull & Skibbereen or the Cavan & Leitrim, but that’d mean big expenses to have a locomotive or two custom-built, and I’d have to figure out more types of rolling stock.

Thank you Gary. I certainly don’t see any of my modeling efforts as being all that “fine” so I very much appreciate the compliment.

@glakedylan is an excellent judge of modeling.  He often has good things to say about my hatchet work er... I mean projects.

Your layout, on the other hand, is truly deserving of such accolades.  I really enjoy your updates.

I’ll have to dig up some of the old photos. I tried going back in the thread to look but apparently all my old attachments are no longer valid.

If I see it maybe we can do something.  If it comes to that it might be good to have a sample piece to be sure that they mate with existing.

I’m trying to get back into things again.

Last week I uncovered the layout’s travel case and had the layout out for the first time in a couple years.
Gave the 0-6-0 and the 12t Plymouth a shakedown run once I cleaned off enough workbench space to set up the layout.

I’m hoping the timing works out so that I can take the layout to a couple shows this year.

In the meantime, I’m trying to get back to working on the layout.
I started by digging out some crates and such that I had in a drawer and picking out a few to clean up.

Not sure what I should be painting these, and how I’m going to go about painting these should be an interesting undertaking, but it’s a start.
They aren’t the best looking crates, but it’s what I’ve got. I’m surrounded by “stuff” but so little of it is anything good.

Have you watched the videos from Thunder Mesa? I find them quite inspirational when it comes to stuff like this.
