I got some more ballasting done today.
I'd say 80% of the track is now ballasted. And with what ballasting I just finished today, it means that I can now start to lay the dirt road. Which means tomorrow I begin collecting fine soil.

Cheap dirt is good dirt.
We'll just see how much I get yelled at for bringing dirt into the house. 
Luckily somewhere in the basement we have an old toaster-oven, that way I won't get yelled at for baking dirt in the big oven.

I don't know what your soil is like, but, if you're trying not to get yelled at, you may wish to bake the dirt in the garage or outside.  Otherwise, you risk stinking up the house.  You've been warned.

Update:

I think I burned my dirt...

It didn't make any foul smells, but when it went in the toaster oven it was a light tan, and now it's brown...

I guess I'm going to have to buy some dirt in the proper color.

You probably just baked the water and volatiles out as opposed to burning it. If you take a teaspoon of baked diet and add a couple drops of water then mix and air dry it may go lighter again.

It depends on the temperature and the composition, but most of these processes are not reversible in a simple way.

It didn't change the color of the dirt. I guess Scottl was right.
