Correct.  Glulam spans were a particular favourite of the railway's engineering staff during the 1970s and 1980s; they were manufactured by online customers and could be transported easily from site of manufacture to location by rail.

Doug's model is of the railway's first crossing of the Pine River on the Chetwynd Subdivision.  There are two additional crossings of the same river on the Chetwynd Subdivision, and a fourth on the Dawson Creek Subdivision which I am modelling.  Pine #4 is a high deck truss bridge measuring 1,013 feet in length and 163 feet in height:




This will be a signature scene on my layout, featuring a full size scale model of the prototype:




Just before the railway crosses the Pine River, it spans Highway 97 on a concrete overpass:




My N Scale version is full size, but I had to reverse and sharpen the curve to fit my layout:




Here is the overpass in place on the layout for a test fit with a mock-up of the highway underneath:




The other major bridge on the Dawson Creek Subdivision is the wood Howe deck truss span with trestle approaches spanning the Kiskatinaw River:




My full scale model will be sctachbuilt from scale lumber; until then a temporary span is in place on the layout:




That is it for my bridges; no tunnels.

This is the only one I have a photo of at the moment...clearly not on a layout.   :facepalm:



That's a beauty Bryan - definitely looks like coastal Washington.  Any particular prototype?  BTW, it was good to meet you.

I just LOVE proto based scenes - that's why I'm in Nscale. A lot of great protobased modeling here. Tim, those bridges blow me away, even the simple highway crossing. Can't wait to see the wooden trestle!

First ever post..

A few of the bridges on my layout, the Susquehanna Valley System.  Picture quality could be better, I'll work on it.  Right now I'm in the process of completely reworking a few areas of the layout, so a few of the pictures are out of date, but the same bridges will be going back (with improvements) in after the track modifications are finished.

Seems to be a problem with the Photobucket account link.  I can open them through the home page, but they won't open even when I try loading the picture by typing the complete URL address.  I'm heading out of town for the week so I'll try setting up a online album with another service.  I don't know if it's acceptable to post the link but the pictures are viewable in my Rail Images photo gallery http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=2729.  If I violated a rule I apologize.

Thank you...it's the bridge over Trap Creek on the NP's 21st sub, between Lebam and Menlo, WA. 
The prototype bridge is on a gentle curve, though to suit a previous layout, I built it on a tangent alignment.  I'll more than likely do the same for the next layout.

It was a real pleasure to meet you also.

A re-post from a previous Weekend Update.  One of several bridges on the WM72 and typical of WM bridges on the line between Hagerstown and Cumberland.  A modified Central Valley truss with the track deck moved to the top of the truss, with ME 40' approach girders.

I'm liking this thread....

Simple is hot. Convincing shoreline treatment on the river, BTW. I like how the shallows fade to a greenish depth; looks a lot like what's flowing downstream currently.

Stage one of a ME tall steel viaducts. I used a piece of tubular steel for support, and glued on the ME girders. Three steel viaducts still "under construction", but I can run trains over a plum and level track for now :D

What little of the steel shows, will be painted or cammo'd to blend in.
