UP Arrowedge: Oops

I have to say that I don't have much knowledge of modern intermodal, so I didn't know anything about the UP arrowedge.

Came across a reference to it in this story where the UP lost track of this car and ran it into three bridges by mistake! Oops.

Looks like an interesting modeling project, and a built it excuse if any of your bridge are out of alignment.

There was a small thread here back when that first article was released but the second article is the first thing I've heard about it since.  I should have asked about them last time I was in North Platte.

Those are pretty neat, although I doubt they will have a material effect on fuel consumption.  Especially if the double stacks are not uniformly full.

OK, I'm not a professional railroader, or do I play one on TV, but how does a crewmember not recognize that a car listed as empty in fact have a container AND a door stop loaded on it, then run it into TWO  bridges?

ArroWedge could also turn out to be a fast way to increase clearances in tunnels.

Now all they need is a spoiler to put on the last container of a stack train.
