I remember those Turtle Creek decals in MR.  Anyone else remember MR's Seaboard Central decals (or at least the artwork) in the magazine in the 1980s?  I'd like to get those printed for use on my layout.

Check with Rail Graphics,  I think they did the work for them...

Microscale still has the Turtle Creek decals,

My dad had the original set from the magazine, he does HO, I do N, so he sent me to the N.  Did 6 cars total, I believe, using a few different MDC boxcar kits.

Don't sweat it.  No rush.   I appreciate your offer and will be more than happy to compensate you for your trouble.  Thanks!

Bad news, Dave. After a bit of digging, I found my 1985 & '86 MRR binders. Unfortunately I don't have either the Dec '85 or Jan '86 issues. (I'm also missing March '86.) I'm sorry to disappoint.

EDIT - I looked at the March 2003 Cover on eBay, and there is no mention of the Turtle Creek layout.

Turtle Creek layout build was a 4-parter, January through April 2003.

Dave, I checked the Dec 85 and Jan 86 issues, and while they feature the Seaboard layout build, there was no artwork for decals printed with the articles. If actual decals were included with either issue, I couldn't say.

This weekend, I saw an SD9 for sale on Howard's table that wore the Seaboard Central scheme. Do you guys remember if the engine used in the series was an SD? If so, the original might be on the market.

Mike and DKS,

Thanks for checking and going to all of the trouble.  If I recall correctly, it was just the artwork printed, but I don't have the slightest idea what issue that would have been in, if it wasn't in the original two-part series.  No biggie.  I really appreciate your efforts, though.

Hmm, interesting.   My plans were to paint a Seaboard Central locomotive, and patch it for the Seaboard System, as part of the merger/consolidation in the early- to mid-1980s.

A few years ago Jim Kelly did a Turtle Creek extension as an add-on shelf.   A very simple yet surprisingly effective implementation.   I had always thought it would be really cool to try to build something like that in P:48,  maybe some day I'll be  able to get around to it....  ;)

The JD's former coal mine was kitbashed following the one Jim Kelly did for that Turtle Creek extension.
