Hi Mark,
Are these beta-only prices?
Looking forward to seeing the first print.

Yes.

Most of my past designs have gone from Beta to Final with no revisions.  If you're willing to take the risk of an untested model, now is the chance to get it at a discount.
Once it's final, the full calculated price is active.

Thanks for the info Mark. I'm a little hesitant to order without seeing one printed just because of the smooth lines of the blades and the usual lines seen in printing. How thick is the material printed? Is there opportunity to so any light sanding without risking the structural integrity? Thanks for bringing these to market, very cool!

The bad news is we don't need a test print to know print lines are guaranteed on the blades.  The good news is, I knew about it all along and it's a minor issue.  Note that the blades are printed in "White Strong and Felxible" which I understand to be a laser hardened nylon powder.  You won't have to give them a bestine bath or the water pick treatment like FUD, but instead they will need to be smoothed with some fine grit.  Unless of course you like topographic wind turbine blades. :)

Hi Mark,

I think these are great. Any thoughts about the bases and control room on top?
One question, the link to Shapeways shows them to be printed in FUD. Is this an error on S'ways part?

The mounts are FUD, the blades are "White Strong & Flexible".  At least that's how it shows up for me.

please make some TTYX Spine Cars...
It looks as if these are based on the previous TTAX 48' spine cars that we do

http://www.nscalekits.co.uk/ttax48spinecars.html

but there is not enough detail to see. Can you confirm if this is the case - and whether you could use the cars as TTYX stand-ins? If not can you let me know what the differences are?

We have not tried the spine cars with the turbine blades referred to above but would be very willing to try this. However we are working on another very distinctive car in turbine blade service. This new car for us has not available in N Scale before - details of this car will be available soon.

Hello Mark,

I finally registered here, have been lurking for a long time, but your project was just the kick I needed.  I put my order in during last week, only to have the blades rejected by Shapeways saying they could not be printed.  Thought you'd like the feedback.   I look forward to them!
I also have some detailed pics of the blade mounting system for Vestas blades.  The RR I work for up here in Ontario hosted 5 wind trains last summer.

Thanks David.  Yes, in true Shapeways fashion, it prints once then gets rejected.  Nonetheless, I've updated the file and the Beta of both blades and mounts are available again.

Great shots David!  After the dust settles on the initial release I'll be looking at making other mount variations.  I wonder how well the Sliding Trolly mount would work in N Scale.

The blades would have to be made of rubber!

Foiled again Mark, Shapeways sure doesn't like those blades!
