ScottL:  The Atlas car is a clunky old piece of tooling, the MTL car is a really nice model.

Hmmm ... maybe I should have tried this tactic with the New Haven heavyweights.  And the red 36' Swift wood meat reefer.  And the Ringling Brothers 12-1 heavyweight advertising car.  And ...

Most coal trains are 100+ cars, and a lot of us are crazy enough to try and run that many. People like me even want different numbers on each one. At least when new most coal cars ran in trains of the same type of car. It would seem like a car that would always sell, at least with popular road names. Some of the smaller guys have done quite well making many numbers on the same car. I would think the big guys would try it too.

Your layouts nice, but it needs more Conrail !

The only problem I can see is production capacity.  To meet the demand for NS and CSX hoppers alone would probably mean MT couldn't make anything else...

Making 10-packs they could sell a new batch every month for decades without repeating a number.  That should keep the collectors busy - and broke.

Collectors? There is a lots of NS motive power on the market with no steel hoppers to be found. I too like the MTL version over the Atlas one.

I'd take 1 actually and renumber...   !!!

The issue is that this particular scheme has never been done (on that model) and it is the most common.

Oh now, come on; who would be dumb enough to announce an entire line of New Haven passenger cars in N scale? They'd have be crazy....... :D
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!
