A letter to Atlas

Dear Atlas,

While milling around the layout, I had a thought I wanted to share.

Any chance you'd want to revisit the SD60? It looks like its been over 4 years (I stand corrected) since the last release? That being said maybe tool the famously ugly crescent cab for the SD60E as part of the release? I think a trifecta of SD60 variations would be worthy of several reservations (SD50/60, SD60M/I, SD60E). I know the SD60E has very small changes to the details of the longhood, but imho I'd be willing to ignore them. Heck maybe even set these little babies up with working ditchlights?

With the recent release of the heritage units and their success, I can think of a few recent NS paint schemes in the SD60E you could release. I'd buy all three!!!

Also, how about Conrail, SOO (3 window), CSX, UP(3 window), CP? I'd be willing to reserve one or two of these as well...

Can anyone else weigh in on this?

So in conclusion... please, pretty please with cherries on top???

Respectfully,
Josh

While it would be really cool to see a NS specific model get made, it would take business away from my 3D printed cabs.

I'd go for a couple of NS units with an ugly Crescent Cab.  I bought some of the recent SD50's Atlas produced with an eye toward making them into SD40E rebuilds.  The SD40E's are usually helper units but they've been showing up on regular road runs occasionally and the SD60E's are NS's intention for the non AC 6-axel power for the foreseeable future.  They plan on turning out around 290 of them through 2019.

Those crescent cabs are quite hideous!

I actually like Crescent cabs so I'm all for SD60E's. :D

Sure:

Sorry, it's an old, tired joke now.  Anyway, I don't know why they insist on emphasizing the stone-age brow on these locos with such high-contrast paint schemes.  :-X

It's ironic that you posted 6963 in this thread today. I drove by the Montview Yard in Lynchburg, VA today and it was parked on the west end.  I didn't know it exited until I spotted it this afternoon.

I don't know, I don't think they're exactly small differences. If it were just the fan, or the popped out grills, it wouldn't be so bad, but add em up, and it's pretty far off.

From the front, it reminds me of the CNW Crandall Cab units.

SD60I please
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away
