Planned centercab transfer unit bash

5 minutes ago I came up with this . I need a unit for dedicated vacuum service power , as it need to be speed matched for best operation , and traction .I was thinking of the Minitrix H-12-44 or the RS-11 .
It appears that there are a slew of H-12-44's SHELLS on eBay and almost no powered units . I am thinking somebody is scarfing up the little beasts for the powered chassis , maybe for powered boxcars , and off loading the shells . Then it hit me , a c-c transfer unit using 2 shells . I have some shells on order and will need a strong c-c chassis that will fit the spliced bash . Anybody make one and what did you use ? Got to tell you in minds eye this ought to be naturally dated believable looking unit . Thoughts ?

If you could shorten each of the long hoods a bit, the most obvious chassis to me would be a FM trainmaster. Would certainly make a unique engine, and you could probably even convince some that it was based on a real engine, given how many one offs and experimental locos came out of the early diesel era.

Richie,I'm kicking around the same exact idea,I have a bunch of those shells..It's just kind of a "freebie" project,I'm just gonna remotor & tune up some like new MRC RSD15 chassis I have,since I can't find shells for them..If I did a serious transfer unit,I'd go with VO-1000 shells,and Trainmaster chassis,PRR,of course..

I heard this weekend, that somebody is going to offer a 3D printed shell for the Baldwin center cab switcher, which will fit on the Atlas C628 with trucks turned 18- degree's. Would this also be a solution for your model?

I came up with that exact idea , a trainmaster and a H12-44 are right at my desk . For the last hour or so I have been farting around with them . I have to see what shoe-horning is possible this evening . Kind of like the idea of FM's mating with another FM .

RSD-15 and RSD-7 , sure wish somebody would produce re-makes .

If they can find another Prefactory printer, it will look fine.

The designer is James Norris. You will be able to found out more on his website: http://jamestrainparts.wordpress.com. I did see some examples of his work at the Bournemouth convention and there were some lines on his DD35, but the water tender for the UP steam excursion was quite clean and crisp.

(He has a lot of stuff in progress. I hope we don't burn him out. At least not before I get my C855s. )
