Someone I know did precisely what you are proposing, and made quite an interesting engine out of it. He powered his with the mechanism from an Atlas SD60M, though, so that he could have easy DCC. I will most likely see him sometime this week, so I will ask him about how he made his, and I will get back to you.

These are some pictures a friend of mine took from his videos of it running. I hope these will help you in some way.

Hi All,

James here, and yes I was taking to Marc form N-Stars over the weekend and yes, I am doing the Baldwin DT6-6-2000 Center cab.

Here is a screen shot showing some progress.

I've still got a fair bit to do but I am planning on ordering my test print at the beginning of April;  there will be powered version that uses an Atlas C-628/630 chassis and dummy version that will come with everything exempt Mt couplers and wheels.

I will also do a dummy chassis and trucks for the spare C-628/630 shell if anybody wants one, seams a shame to waist it and then you can use it for a mid train helper?

C855B, don't panic the big fellas are coming. :-)

Whew! ;)

Welcome aboard, James. Happy to see you here on TRW.

Are you and Bob going to work out the U50 chassis modifications, or would you like me to do that? I have plenty of source material (both Kato and China) to hack. I also have a mod going to put 40" wheels on it, so we'll see how that goes, too.

BTW, a pair of the UP pre-rebuild tenders are in the post and should hopefully be on my workbench by week's end. Looking forward to them.

Hi C855B, thanks for the welcome.

As for the U50's, I think we have it for now but I will start a new thread on that when I get closer.  I am looking forward so seeing your UP water bottles running.

The only thing I have left from that early attempt back in 2005 is a master and molding set for the left and right sideframes in resin, and I 'designed in' the changes in wheelbase to fit the Alco C630/C628 truck from Atlas.  It also has embedded brass .010 wire for the brake rigging, so at least for now, I think I'm better than RP, but probably not for long.   I do the truck sideframes for $8 a set of 4.

See my Lima thread.  If the Lima switcher works out, the centercab is next.  If you can hold out just a little longer, I'll be fullfilling your wishes.
