Will GHQ be pre-announcing the kit here on RW before announcing on the website? They may sell all of them out on the former without having to use the latter.

Hello all,

Here is a status update:
I hand cut 50 roofwalks today, which was the last kit part required.

The Website content is almost ready and I will send it to GHQ. They will then update their catalog and website to prepare for distribution.
GHQ will be distributing this Zen Master project: ZM20.

Had some minor issues with some of the castings. Gregg has a zero defect policy (understandable, but annoying!), so we lost a several kits because of a missing grabiron in the body casting. I may be authorized to sell the kits on eBay, but that depends on what needs to be done to repair the castings.

More news when it happens.

PRR R50b express reefers rebuilt with freight (F) car appliances (ATP: 1938-1967)
Beginning in 1938 and through June 1944, 548 R50b reefers were rebuilt with freight car appliances (F).
This rebuilt freight appliance version of the car is represented by the kit.

The R50b reefers were rebuilt with standard freight car appliances by changing the following:
– adding side ladders
– changing to a single-sill step type
– moving the end ladders to the left side
– moving the brake wheel
– adding a brake platform
– adding a platform above the end ladders
– adding a defect card holder
– modifying handholds
– adding a pressure retaining valve

The “freight appliance” version of these cars were decorated in 11 different schemes with buff (delux yellow) colored lettering.
Lettering placement was the same for all schemes.

More news soon.

Michael,
Any word on how long of a delay on this?
Like, 3 days? A week?
I'm only nagging you because of the limited quantity and don't want to miss out!

Hello all,

A little bit of a delay on my end as we get these kits ready to go out.
I'll provide more details about the status this weekend.

Taking care of my wife right now as she recovers.

Best regards,
Michael Livingston

Why would you even ask that? He very clearly said, it's delayed while his wife recovers. I want these reefers more than the next guy, but give the man his space!

IT IS NOT DEAD.  Gregg is serious about QC and there were some issues with some of the castings.  Michael, who is spearheading this project, works more hours than there are in the day as well as keeping his priorities straight.

Why would I even ask that?...because I wanted to know if the project was dead...
yes, he 'clearly' stated he was helping his wife recover...he also 'clearly' stated that he would update by 'this' weekend...8 days ago...I can certainly understand that-I work 60 hours a week and still attend to a 78 year Mother and an 89 year old Aunt...
I have all the respect in the world for a caretaker AS a caretaker...

Bruce,

I take you at your word that you didn't mean to sound insensitive, but it sure came across that way to me (and others I'm sure).

Best wishes, Dave

"is this project dead?".....

insensitive?...really?....

What 'lines' are you reading between?...I believe quite a bit has been assumed by a simple question...i.e. 'insensitivity'

in addition, my question was answered quite succinctly and well by hegstad1....with a simple statement and an explanation about the project...if he assumed it was an insensitive question, privately, he didn't make his assumption public...which was/is very wise and adult.

This is how you came off insensitive:

He said "delay" not "shelved indefinitely." Your question was answered before you asked it.
He said "kits ready to go out" implying that he has plans to take these to market, not "the project is no more."
He said "Taking care of my wife as she recovers," implying that there are things more important to him than some damned model. This also implies to the rational adult that unexpected things may come up and that real life may have gotten in the away, and something IRL may have happened that took his attention away from posting an update, here, on the most important thing to ever happen, ever.

The brevity of your question didn't help, either.
I'm not trying to get this thread locked, but that's how others perceived your comment.
