Man, I grew up a PRR guy, but NYC's design people really were on the ball. That PA makes me want to ride the train.

Chris, The P&LE Also purchased 4 ALCO PA-1's and 2 ALCO PA-2's for the Steel King service between Pittsburgh and Youngstown. It was not uncommon to find the P&LE PA's staying on the train all the way to Cleveland. The PA1's were numbered 4204 - 4207 and the PA2's were numbered 4213 and 4214. All were A units and all were delivered in the New York Central Lighting Stripe scheme.

If you want to change things up a little, add a P&LE PA to your Steel King passenger train.

Yep. Here is an Erie PA @ Aliquippa, PA on the P&LE.

I have a few photos of P&LE PA's on the Erie as well.

Maybe I'll use a NYC painted coach mixed in the train.

Oh well no roof available guess I'm off the hook.  :P

Uh huh. I call BS.

Knowing you, Chris, we'll see a photo etched, perfectly assembled version in this thread by next Friday...

eja, All 3 of those station colors are custom mixed. I just kept a bunch of color photos handy while I mixed and stopped when it looked right. I do know the tan was a craft store paint like Ceramcoat. Might be "mudstone" I started with, but they don't make that color any more. Sorry no certain answer.

They don't make that color anymore?  That was a great color for aged concrete.  I better use my last remaining bottle sparingly.

Yeah I stopped squirting out paint from my Mudstone now that I can't buy more. Now I unscrew the cap and flip it over, dip the brush right in there. Also another color I use most is Charcoal and now I can't find it any where. Luckily you can mix Burnt Umber and Prussian blue to get charcoal. Somehow mixing those 2 bottles yielded 1.5 bottles of product.  :| The struggle is real!

Edit: looks like you may be able to buy it online, but I live close to 3 different craft stores and they no longer have it.

Clutter for Old East

One thing I wish I could model is old newspapers lying on the ground or wadded up against things. That stuff seems to be everywhere there is lots of people traffic. Another thing is empty bottles. I used some clear fiber optic strand, cut up into small bottle-sized pieces. That's OK for clear glass but need something beer bottle brown colored. It doesn't take much of either to add zing to a scene. Small water puddles, another scenic item not used much.
Just wondering Chris if you're going to have various levels of weathering, from light to heavy, on the buildings and structures.

Old papers is something I'll try thanks to the Beer Line extention in MR    ;)

Everything on the layout is weathered even the figures get an airbrush spray of alcohol/ink to tone them down. A lot of the weathering doesn't even show in photos and that has me going back and adding a little more here and there. Nothing will get no weathering  :)

Fuel and oil I understand. However, I'm trying to figure out how you get coal to pour out of a tank like that.

(Great scene!)

Your statement that everything is weathered is corroborated by the following picture.  It's clear that the black on the new locomotive is much darker than anything else on the layout.  I love the contrast; this is a cool picture.  Kudos!

I think that is an AD for what the shop sells.  the caol would be piled up in the chutes to the right.  Speaking of, where's the coal in those chutes Chris?  Even emptyh there would still be some chunks layou on the ground...  Are we in store for some new @Chris333 goodness in this scene?

(Of course it is. However, the juxtaposition as possible labeling of tank contents is amusing.)

That does bring up the question of coal storage.  I don't remember there being anything.
