Totally digging the 1 gallon jugs of Jack Daniels in the tan building.

So I've been working on the layout again. Just doing small stuff like adding window glass to buildings and stuff like that. I did get the city side passenger station roof installed finally. Used 3D laser cut sheets from Monroe Models:


And these 2 buildings at the edge got painted up

Something strangely therapeutic about building and painting DPM models.

I rigged up some piping at the pump house. All made up in my head I have no idea what the water intake should look like. There are 3 pump houses down the street from me, one is close to the street:

If anyone can point me to a better photo of a water intake I'm all ears.

A lot of stream side businesses would have simple intake grills below water level and keep the pump works inside. If there was a separate in water pump it would likely be in a stone or block building to with stand currents. If that were up on pilings it would be more believable.

The lower structure is throwing it off for me. Is there any examples of a corrugated structures that close to the water?

I don't know a lot about pump houses, but the ones I could model in Waterloo have no exposed piping but everything is underground.  In your picture, I would think those pipes aren't inlets, but rather pipes to take the water elsewhere?  Being next to the canal on your layout, maybe just a culvert to let the water out?

But like I said, I don't know that much about it.  I do have the drawing for one pump house and everything is underground but basically the doorway.

I kind of knew all the cool stuff was inside the building, but I figured "some" piping would let people know what the building was. Plus I want it to look industrial.

The whole corrugated lower area is un-attached (so far).

I think Sirenworks nailed it #edslaw. I found it strange to have a ground contact corrugated structure that close to water with a main structure only a few feet away. I live near the Chesapeake and corrugated structures do not fair well, or need constant repair. Look forward to the finished scene!

I think for Chris's installation, masonry is the only way to go.  I agree with the observation about the main pipe coming out the window as being weird though, such a primary component would have been better planned for.


I think the examples I found are canal or irrigation pump houses; inland examples that don't have to worry about salt or constant spray or even a lot of wet weather. and are probably more prone to drier climes that require irrigation, like the great valley in California, than the flood prone Great Lake regions and Ohio.  Then again, Chris asked for examples and I found 'em

The bar along the bottom of the grate will disappear in the water layers.

You know I had to add a pipe right.
