Your ballast looks fantastic in this shot!

One thing I'll say about painting track. I used "railroad tie brown" then I use "rail brown" on the rails. It is a waste to paint the rails before ballast. The white-ish powder from the ballast gets all up in the rail web.

On the left was painted after ballast. Right was before, needs repainted.

Took the "window" walls out.

OK done...or am I.

Chris: just joined and started following some layout progresses,, yours is incredible.
a quick question: when you kit bash,  what do you use to cut the walls and do you use a filler or something like that?  my current CMMMD is about 40 inches wide and 12 feet long.  I am hoping to begin a report soon.  just uploaded the first 40 pix to photobucket this morning.   All my track is laid and i am begining to kit bash myself.  Awesome inspiration.
thanks
miguel

A lot of the time with DPM kit walls I score and snap with a knife, then dress the edge with a Dremel cut off wheel or a file. Both joints you see in the photo are beveled at 45 degrees too. I use MEK for glue and it "melts" to 2 pieces together. I try to make them fit nicely so no filler is needed. Some times I rub the edge with a brass brush after the glue has cured, go in the direction of the brick rows.

If you are building a DPM kit stock, then you can't really bevel the edges. But kitbashing anything goes.  :D

Built a HOn30 layout, been messing with that.

NOT tearing down the Mahoning Div.

I'm starting a HCD sized layout and this has been a big inspiration!

You need to get back in the mood asap!!

I'm studying your plan and wondering how to adapt it to the Lehigh Valley railroad. Difference is I can add 3' to the length so 3x10 essentially.

When the HOn30 went up I took down my string of party lights that were around the door. So I guess the layout has gone dark  :P

And I need to order another string of lights...

It's OK, Chris. You can work more on the HOn30 layout and lose more interest on this one. HOn30 is far more important. And when you need it, I'll be right here at 1-800-GOT-JUNK-LAYOUT to come pick that up from you, no charge!  :D

Slightly on topic. Today I took a thermometer downstairs and placed it on my HOn30 layout, it was 63 degrees. I turned on the lights and it ended up going to 68 degrees  :scared:

No promises, but I just ordered a new light string for the layout. At least the layout's future will be bright.  :D
