Not derelict wooden buildings, but ones in sad shape and still being used, although not for their original purposes. Though abandoned foundations of any kind -- even ones partially covered by a new structure -- also give the prior history image.
I like that Chris aligned the new building with the street grid, tho.

Not done, but after 3 different coats of paint I liked this color:

And it was made from these parts.

Nice bash.  I really like the smaller building, and the brick color looks spot on for the area.

Great work on kitbashing your own version of Shultz's Garage.

I built that kit, and painted it exactly like this for my Dad's HO layout twenty years ago!

At first I wasn't too keen on that little guy, but the finishing really made it work.

Nice job Chris. What did you use for paint and weathering? Are those DPM modulars?

Best wishes, Dave

Yep DPM modulars. The windows are red primer, garage door is grey primer, and the brick is some tan spray paint I have. The rest is washes and drybrushing.

Very nice!  For some reason I picture Al Kalmbach standing in front of the garage door getting ready to mail the first copy of Model Railroader.

Nice....but to do this right you will have to change the location to Milwaukee. I recommend doing this on your next door!

Chris, any more intel on the shade of tan you used? What windows did you use? Those really give it a new look.

Best wishes, Dave

The tan was Krylon "pebble" on the industrial layout I painted this building with it and didn't like it:

The garage building was dry brushed with a mudstone tan and charcoal craft store paint, maybe some raw sienna? So that darkened it up and left the mortar lighter.

That last picture provided a great look at your outstanding track weathering. How did you do that? (I checked through the thread but didn't see anything; apologies if I missed it.)

Also, out of curiosity, how are you throwing the turnouts? I see some sort of linkage in that picture...

The track in that photo is just painted with "Railroad tie brown" and then drybrushed with a grey/tan color.

The linkages are very similar to this:

Chris,

What windows did you use on the DPM modulars. They completely change the character of the building and look great.

They were from Tichy Train Group. I had to cut out the concrete window sill from the wall and round the top of the windows to make them fit. And of course they are inserted backward from inside the building. The doors are either Tichy or Grandt Line.
