Do situations like that happen in real life, 2 industries sharing a siding?

Probably not often. For me I can just call it a background building. The bonus is I can park a boxcar there if I'm feeling froggy.

It happened frequently and still does some today, though probably to a lesser extent as industry has moved away from the congestion of the cities.

I hope it's not a derail but how would they handle that?  Just time deliveries to not interfere with each other?  I always thought this wasn't supposed to happen, if it does that opens up a lot more freedom on my layout if I could have a few low-traffic industries sharing a siding.

It happened all the time and local crews would just work with the business owners on delivery schedules.

Even outside of cities... check out the Franksville thread for 3-4 industries on the same siding in the middle of nowhere, Wisconsin.

It isn't all that uncommon, and can have a variety of twists; if you look at the Missouri North-central in Chillicothe, MO, there are two industries which have their own spurs but share a switchback

If a crew has to switch a siding with two industries and they need to pull the car in the back, they just couple up both cars, switch out the back customer, spot new car and spot the old car from first industry in old spot.

Seems there tended to be a restaurant of some sort close to all Erie passenger stations and I have just enough room for a ESM White Tower. Problem is, it's backwards.

Anyone have the reverse model that they would want to trade me?

I'm a little late to the ball game on this, but I think the shear size of the DPM building makes the WT burger joint look smaller, and out of scale. However the WT is scale and the DPM is off. I totally dig the idea of a right handed WT in that spot just that big island of DPM throws off the Feng Shui.

To stir the pot even more... the siding is also used as a switchback lead

And that is like the next to the smallest DPM building there is.  :scared: I think the White Tower all by itself would be odd

You need to check out Cricket's Saloon. And, of course, you can bash something smaller, too. This is based on a prototype:

Then there's that WillModels kit I know you have... FWIW, I think that scene would look better with a cluster of maybe 3 smaller buildings, rather than a big guy and a midget. You might even think about something lower-profile, say, perhaps a gas station to replace the DPM kit (which honestly kinda sticks out like a sore thumb). Going lower-profile would improve the view of things on the far side of the tracks as well. IMO, of course, and YMMV, etc.

Building on DKS wisdom:

If you kitbash two small buildings in the blue rectangles - or use a Willmodels kit to fill the rear slot and make the rest a fenced yard with dumpsters etc),  You can leave the White tower turned like this, slide it back, and it will have prominence on the corner as nature intended.

Peer pressure  :scared:

How about this:

I will add store fronts to them and the White Tower will BE REVERSED  ;) And here is the 2 new ones next to the old DPM
