Time to play "guess that station's size" 

On this side of the layout I want to build a copy of the station I played at as a kid in Hubbard, OH. It was Conrail primer grey then and was shortly torn down, but in better times:





I would leave out the section house speeder storage as I think that was added around the 1960's

There are no plans that I could find, but one book I have says it is a mirror image of Erie's station in Freedom, OH.

In freedom when they added electric lights I found this that I reversed.


I came up with 14'x43' for the main box. Any other more educated guesses out there?

Using the door, I get 15 x 45. I did not, however, use any Latex.

I printed the image out and after a bit of fiddling came up with a 1:120 drawing. I assumed that the doors at the top and bottom right are 36". That makes the door to the left of the bay window 2'-6"  and the general size about 60' x 20'...

It's a best guess. The image is not to scale. I used Visio to add the dimensions I took from the 1:120 drawing.

I started with the assumption that the doors are 3' wide as well. But when I scaled things out against the second image, that made the door over 8' tall. That said, the 2'-6" wide door then becomes about 2' wide, so nothing seems to add up right. Finally, I compared the photos with the drawing, and realized they are quite different--the placement of doors, and the number and placement of windows do not agree. So, IMO all bets are off.

It looks to be about as wide as that Crew Cab International pickup is long.  Find the measurements for one of those and your golden.
Or, there has to be a standard for Erie Railroad siding somewhere.  Find that specification, count the boards and that should give you someplace to start.  I would bet it's a 5-1/2" or so reveal on the siding.

If indeed the boards are 5.5" tall, then the end of the building is ~18' wide.

When I used 14x43 and then used 6" siding I couldn't get square window panes.

The extra height you're seeing is probably the transom.  The door would most likely be 7' tall anyway for that vintage.

The 5.5" lap siding is a good reference, too.

If you give me a little time, I can try to translate what I see into a 3-D rendering, and you can decide if I've got it right or not.

I'd go with the 36" door argument.... The extra height you're seeing is probably the transom.  The door would most likely be 7' tall anyway for that vintage... The 5.5" lap siding is a good reference, too.

I see no transom over the door in this image. Interestingly, if the siding boards are 5.5", then the height of the door is almost exactly 80". (Conceivably it could be 84", given the image resolution and margin for error.)
