May I suggest you go back and add some elevation to those yards.  And maybe some outbuilding garages.  The kind with basketball hoops over the door.  In case Wally and Lumpy want to play Horse with Eddie Haskell.

Wait, for Chris's era it should be homemade, a bottomless produce basket nailed to a tree.

I hope those driveway aprons are 6" thick and reinforced with rebar.  This town has a building code, you know.

Lee

.040" styrene x 160 = 6.4" thick. Just passed :D

Looks great. How are planning to simulate the mowed lawns for the houses?

I'm not sure about the lawns. I hope very fine ground foam will work. I can sprinkle it on loose first to see what it looks like. Jamie used static grass and later hit it with hair trimmers.

I should think for a close-cut lawn, fine ground foam would suffice.  At least that's what I use.

Same here.  Fine ground foam used for lawns.
I started with nothing and still have most of it left.

Use florist foam (the super fine foam), to elevate the house a tad, shape with course grit paper.

Use the static grass on one half. Then ground foam on the other with a guy mowing the lawn!

For a single car garage, use the Blairline kit.  The sides are such that you can put them such that the door is closest to the house.  For a double, scratch using the Blairline as a guide, just put the front and rear together for the width, cut out of styrene and do a new roof.  Don't do like I did and put the door on the side opposite the house.  Great building thread and I enjoy all the new postings.

Finalized these 5 buildings for the small town. Been swapping out various buildings and a couple of them were painted twice because I didn't like the first colors   Spent about 8 hours today just detail painting them, feels like I barely did a thing.

And now my super bright lights no longer seem that bright.

Lookin' great Chris, nice feel to your small town. Yea, this stuff sucks up time like there's no tomorrow ;)
I love the way you made mods to your structures so they don't look like everyone else's. I also love the cornice/corbel detail on the corner commercial building. One thought: perhaps the top surface should be another color, representing roofing material like tarpaper or metal sheet?
Nice work so far!

What is that tall red brick one against the backdrop? Half of the Book Emporium?
Also, are the electric sevrice conduit supposed to be that thick on the building next to the one with the wooden rear porch? Everything else in the pic looks to scale but that seems a tad off. Unless I'm mistaking a downspout or soil pipe.

The tall red building:

and the electrical service is a part from the same kit.

The scene isn't done at all just picked what building I'd be using. Today I put another rear slice of a building behind the tall red one.

Also spent most of the day looking at the screen drawing that depot  from earlier in this thread in CAD. Just e-mailed it off to the laser cutter.

Well, that answers both my questions. Don't understand why companies make some oversized add-on parts for their kits and built-ups while other parts look fine.
