And at the street price of $100 for a really nice sound locomotive, I might have to get one. If you get any current release N loco and add sound yourself, you're already over $100 and you still have to modify and install it!

Yeah that $140 makes thus an impulse buy for me. I'm going for the BNSF paint out which should be good for 1998.

Some of the Santa Fe's made it to at least 1995.  All of the BN's were gone before 1990.  They were still running, second-hand, on other roads, including Montana Rail Link.

My 1995 source is the last ATSF/BN/MRL rosters before the BNSF merger.  The next year the ATSF and BN units became BNSF locomotives, so would have been renumbered.  Whether the ATSF F45s ever received full BNSF paint I have no idea.

Judging by your linked page, they probably were never repainted, as the last one made its final run in 1999.

Looks like I might have to order at least one of the BN, as they are the early GN units, and different from the BN-purchased units Athearn released earlier.

The BN F45s were all off the roster by 1986, however, I like them, therefore they made it to 1992...or so I said.  That and I like the SD40M-2s that SP had rebuilt from SD45 and SDP45s, I did the same, being BN was on a huge loco rebuild kick in the late 80s into the early 90s.  Got a few SD45s and a pair of F45s currently.  Want to get an F45, and do a whiteface unit, but not sure how if I'll follow the 2 or 3 window SD60M style paint.

Post BNSF:
-BN F45's were long gone
-ATSF F45's were down to 3, and they weren't heavily utilized
-ATSF FP45's were somewhat more utilized, but still didn't last long
-None got BNSF paint. (just patches)
That's not to burst anyone's bubble...they're still neat locos and I wouldn't mind having one for my 1998-2003 BNSF pike, even if they were rare.

For 1997-1998, the MRL units were being leased during that time period...better chance you'd see it on a BNSF train than the ex-ATSF locos.  One of the BNSF annuals has 390 on a BNSF train in Texas.

Hell, I wouldn't mind a Super Fleet Santa Fe FP45 to go with my FVM ATSF GP60.  I have no use for it, and it's several years beyond my 1983-86 era, but they are cool and something I drooled over in my teens back in the day.

Can someone explain the models' road number, era, paint differences (if any), for example:

#100: Era 1989-90
#91: Era 1990-95
#93: Era 1990-99
#98: Era 1990-98

I really like how they list the era for each unit.  Saves some research time on just for the heck of it purchase.
