So I am lobbying for a 70' car, preferably one that was never used in any way on NH  and have added some design surprises if I get the go ahead this week.  The version with the wider spaced doors is different enough from the WOT car to make it a viable candidate.  I think it will be easy to pivot to Combines on a frame like this...

This is a far more practical option.  It's good on many levels to see the pivot in this direction.

Just to add to the conspiracy, I'd buy into B60's in Norfolk and Western.

I've no use for anything else.

And although it is a unique car, it ran all over the country, and being unique, got noticed and photographed in all kinds of places. That makes it much more usable to more people than a car in (mostly) captive service, like a specific diner or an RPO (not that we don't more of need those).

So maybe a good answer to the original baggage car question starts with picking a prototype that traveled over multiple railroads. The term "Baggage car" is a misnomer anyway, they hauled all kinds of stuff all over the country at the head end of passenger trains and mail trains; newspapers, magazines, storage mail (mail not sorted on route) packages, lcl cargo, special shipments, and yes, theatrical scenery (did anyone think a scenery car was for moving model train layouts?)

Off the top of my head I can think of NYC, Pennsy, B&O, Erie, Missouri Pacific, Burlington, New Haven and probably many other "baggage" cars in LA in the forties, fifties and later. And yes, most were in the 70 plus foot range, not a lot of eighty footers.  I suspect many western roads baggage cars ended up in the east as well, although to a lesser degree (other then perishables, the movement of goods was still predominantly favoring westbound shipments).

Not cool... If a Railwire member asks a question and he/she happens to work for a mfg and they have the class and fortitude to ask for input it is not cool to use that question against them when you don't agree with the information they have been good enough to share and go around them without as much as a "I have a strong opinion on this, do you mind if I email the company"  email to the poster.. ? Do you understand that you might be causing problems for the poster, do you care ? This is your hobby; it is their livelyhood.

If thats the way we operate at Railwire then I will be self monitoring my comments - really, doesn't Joe (and the rest of us who share pre-production info/opinion/idea input four yor benefit) deserve a little loyalty...?

Feel free to chime in in how you have a right to do whatever you want - I have learned a valuable lesson here at Joe's expense..... I'm disappointed and thank Joe for his understanding.

It wasn't me. Although the the number of PRR headend cars in the market is exactly "never enough," I'm pretty happy with that's out there. We got the B60b and messenger variant, the BM70m, the BM70k, and even the obscure PBM70 that can be bashed to a PB70.
Claus did up another RPO from two MTL RPOs.
