I've been working on the following in Shapeways for the last few months:

Fairmont Ballast Regulator
Fairmont A-5 Motorcar
Fairmont A-6 Motorcar
Fairmont MT19 Motorcar
Fairmont MT14 Motorcar
Harsco Switch Tamper
Harsco SnowJet
Pike On Track Brush cutter

More as I go along. Getting ready for baby is cutting into time to sit in CAD.

All are turning out to be about ~$7.00 in FUD.

Excellent!!

Lou, you and Ian should collaborate. I would love to see some MOW equipment that's actually realistic not some schlub's interpretations.

Sets are the way to go--there's no reason for individual offerings when it comes to track-working vehicles.

Burt Enterprises...now that's a name i remember.  When I was working for the theme parks in Orlando i had a studio in Altamonte Springs and got a call from them to do some casting.  I had seen their stuff on the racks a the local hobby shops and was...well, speechless.  I went over and found their operations were out of a house a few blocks away, the place full of old computer parts and pieces and one of those out buildings in the back yard.  He had a few women in there casting and putting the stuff together and hand painting everything.  It was frighting really.  I don't want to be too hard on the guy, for what he had, he pumped stuff out at an amazing rate.  Rough stuff IMHO and i always wonder how he got around local ordinances and OSHA.  I still have one of his castings and can find it in any box from the smell of Moth balls common with some of the low cost resins back then.  Interesting times those were.

Paula's Hobbies is whatever nth reincarnation of Burt Enterprises happens to be this week. The store has had shoddy models for years clogging up the search pages. By no means the worst (that prize gets awarded to the baboon who sells steaming lumps of melted resin as "business vehicles", they are by no means good enough for the layout.

These are definitely some topics of interest for us at Showcase Miniatures.  We are still looking at the potential interest before proceeding so any input would be very helpful.  And, with Kershaw right in our own backyard....

How is this even a discussion in your shop, as opposed to a full blown product engineering activity?  These type of vehicle are a MAJOR hole in the N scale market, and folks will want all sorts of kits for these.  The ones referenced from eBay wouldn't sell nearly as well (if at all) i fthere were quality, reasonably priced alternatives.

Yeah, that stuff is pretty universal.   And metal is still better, given the quality you guys are capable of.

I had done some of the units, discussed in this thread.

One of my last batches, done in 2011.

Problem was, very time consuming.  These are constructed, entirely out of styrene plastic shapes.

There was also not a very large market for these.
If someone could do these out of metal, that would be great.
Resin casting does not have the ability for quality detail.
I know I tried!  That's why I returned to styrene construction....

Walter Vail is putting the final touches on a new Showcase Miniatures N scale model kit  It was a response to this thread.  Photos attached.  Walter told me that this thread was his "order to proceed".  He also tells me that feels like this is his best model yet.  Walter has been designing and building models for several years and the years that I have known him this is the first time he has made a comment like that.  I have not received my copy of this model yet but but I await it with great expectations.   The model will be available very soon.  I will post all the information in a new announcement thread soon.     Hope you like.
Just in case the image doesn't show up in this post.  Check out this link https://www.flickr.com/photos/21373627@N03/13770051493/in/set-72157603397369550

Looks great!   Can't wait to pick one up.  I hope you get enough people to order these to encourage you to make more models.
