They don't have anything for Micro Engineering code 55 track!

Well, with only one switch, and flex that can be substituted with Atlas, it's not a huge loss.

And it seems if you use a Mac, you're out of luck.

Just find a decent Wine implementation. That's what I did, and AnyRail runs just fine!

Is that Wine, or Whine?

Taking a break from Calculus during a snow day (ah the South, two inches of snow and some ice and everyone loses their minds), but thanks for the replies; I've done track planning with Atlas's Right Track software, but I plan to use some grid paper to lay everything out to really get a feel for how wide the module would need to be, since Atlas only has a grid by the foot

Not to keep harping on AnyRail, but it has a user-configurable grid (in English and metric as well).

FWIW, AnyRail optionally displays the track centerline, the rail width, and/or the tie width, the latter two based on actual track dimensions. It also optionally displays the physical roadbed width for roadbed-type track, such as Unitrack. There are other options as well, including a centerline of any user-defined width, which can be used for clearances, track-to-track spacing, roadbed cutting or whatever.

How? I've looked and looked and looked, and I cannot find how to render the track any way but two thin lines.

Look in the Home menu:

See Centerline, Track, Sleepers, Roadbed, Trace...? Those are the controls for the track display options.

BTW: Seems to run just fine in CodeWeavers Crossover.

Don't worry about harping on it; I think I downloaded it once but just never got used to it as RTS was basically all I had really needed; however, I may have to go back and learn Any rail, as the fifty piece trial would be sufficient for my needs

David, what version of Anyrail are you running? My menu doesn't look anything like that. Maybe it's time I upgraded.

AnyRail — definitely the best layout-planning tool I've used.

Thanks. I think I'm still at like 5.0. It's been a year, or two.

Otto:  To further complicate things, I've seen some European railroads list their gauge as 1440 mm.  For them, 9 mm is exact.

I believe the American railroads allow a half inch tolerance each way from "standard", so all of these are close enough.

Somewhat related, does anyone in Spain or Portugal model N scale with the proper wide gauge?

Nice to know AnyRail works in Crossover.  The author of Templot, the track drawing program made sure it works and I've been (slowly) attempting to get 3DPlanit and CADRail trials to work in a Crossover bottle.  Also on the to-do list is the tool chain to produce Digitrax sound projects, which is nearly all Windows-based.
