started a new project and did some research before using caulking again to glue foam. Not gap filling like caulking but cheaper for big areas.

   It doesn't sound like glue at all, just primer like Kilz.

Well, I think it's an interesting find. Super-sticky paint can certainly perform like a laminating glue. I have been using Gorilla Glue and a spreader for laminating foam, GG being a thick-ish polyurethane, but it's serious overkill. I have been contemplating using floor urethane for laminating foam because its easier to handle than GG - plus my wife and I have a lot of experience with it - but it's expensive, and takes too long to cure. This Glidden stuff seems to address several of the issues, and the water clean-up is a major advantage.

And wasn't somebody here using Great Stuff for laminating extruded foam? That stuff goes friggin' everywhere if you aren't careful! Yikes!

I use a caulk product from Home Depot called DAP "Kwik Seal Plus" Premium Kitchen & Bath Adhesive Sealant. p/n: 16827 . http://www.dap.com/product_details.aspx?product_id=8   Not suggesting it's better or worse than the Glidden Gripper stuff, just another option if anyone is searching.

My biggest concern when laminating foam is whether the glue is going to interfere with the hotwire I use for cutting and shaping. The 3M spraymount for foam I used on my last project didn't seem to slow down the cutting and shaping. It's not like we are making furniture here. Once you get the lightweight spackel filling and topcoat on, it should stay together--at least mine did.

Interesting use…. and water clean-up is a plus. I'll have to see if the big box has it available in quarts.

I use whatever silicon caulking I have in the tube.  They all work very well and most peel off later if you need to move, reposition or reuse the foam.  Unlike the foam glue like PL200, they don't have an noticeable solvent off gas either.

Jimmo, that's a good point...I wasn't considering a hotwire tool as mine was the underlying layout structure.   Possibly to be cut for creeks and so forth but otherwise just laminating a 1" sheet to a 2" sheet for strength.   (so essentially, I *was* making furniture here...    )    I would not think a hotwire or hotknife tool would have any problem with it, harmful vapors aside.

It says fast drying and I'm worried about coating both door and foam before it starts drying.

Great Stuff is great!  I used it on Thunder Ridge several years ago and still use it today.  The advantage being that it expands to fill any gaps if the pieces you are gluing are not tight locking puzzle pieces.

This Gripper looks like it will be a great cheap alternative for clean cut fittings.  I'm curious to see the gripper results when it's foam to wood.  Great stuff holds foam to wood almost exactly as foam to foam, but because it expands, unless it's tightly clamped it's not ideal for clean foam to wood fittings.  I do prefer all purpose calking for this (for now).
