RENFE 316 Arnold diesel

:|            In surfing the Arnold Hornby site I came across the N Scale RNEF 316 diesel. As a closet fan of Australia's railroad's, this locomotive might be the Goodwin Alco passenger/freight diesel built under Alco license. With out digging out one of my reference books, I cannot remember if the Australian locomotive has the cab entry door directly behind the side windows like on US / Canadian Alco's or further back as on the model. Most, but not all Australian car body locomotives were either double ended British style,  think an F-3 with a nose and cab at both ends, or if single ended they had an auxiliary cab on the flat end, which the Goodwin Alco's had like the RENFE diesel has. Note the Alco features on the model, stainless steel side grilling, the position of the radiator and roof top fan at the rear flat end, mostly flat FA type nose. PA- Like Trucks.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Nate Goodman (Nato).

That would be close to a South Australian 930 class
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Australian_Railways_930_class
Or a NSW version that is a 44 class.

Both loco's are DL500B and is an 1800 hp ALCo locomotive based on one of their "World Series" designs.

The DL500B were shipped to quite a few countries, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Pakistan and Australia. They may have finished up in other countries as well but they were the main ones. Those NSWGR 44 and SAR 930s are still running around the place doing sterling service.

The countries were Spain, Greece, India, Pakistan, Peru , Argentina and Australia. From memory India with 100 examples was the second biggest user after the the combined Australian total of 137. Unfortunately none of the ex-SAR locos have been in regular service for several years although there two active examples in preservation. The active former NSWGR examples were sidelined towards the end of last year. Again, two or three remain in 'heritage' service.

The ex SAR examples are rated at 1600hp.

Be nice to see if there is enough interest from Arnold to produce them in the colours of some of the former overseas railways they were used on. I'd be up for either of the Australian versions and possibly and Indian one as I saw these in the flesh.

I note they are also doing a RENFE 141F Mikado to go with the 316 - love to know how much these are all going to cost?
