I have a picture of one of those E&N cars, 292041, in nice bright paint, from Pasco, WA, in June 1978.  It has always seemed odd that the reporting marks are white while the data is black.  The only major paint differences in yours and my photo are that the consolidated stencil on mine is to the right of the data and it has a yellow U1 dot..

Been working on Flag Center the last couple of weeks.  Temporary track, but enough in place to set the "front drop" and some basic scenery.
I am going to like this area, I think.  Here are some shots of the Oregon Turn at Flag Center, none are retouched or cropped and no focus stacking:

Very impressive Tim; the jacking pads are incredibly neat and almost microscopic!

I've just finished up some resin casting for a friend who models in a minority scale (tt), so now it's time to move on to my next project. Starting tomorrow, after household chores, will be the the Canadian Pacific U series modernized tourist sleepers. These were renovated heavyweight cars with added stainless steel lower sides and partial roofs to blend with the Budd built stock used on The Canadian. I've kitbashed a pair of cars previously, but they are not up to standard.

I've been thinking about his one for a long time. I think I've figured out how this can be done, but, as with most of my projects, I'm just going to dive in and see what happens. The challenge is half the fun! If it's a success, a resin kit will result.

These two Briggs Models NSC exterior post double door boxcars were the last of the current crop of models awaiting decals:



Next up for these cars are paint defect repairs, weathering and seal coat, and mounting the trucks.

Thank you - Jeff painted the models for me and he usually mixes his own paints to match the reference photographs I supply for the job.  The NAR colour was referred to as Harvest Gold, I believe, and there are some fairly good reference photographs of new cars on pages 12-13 of Morning Sun's Canadian Railways Vol. 2.  If you want more specific paint type and colour used I can ask Jeff for you.

Isn't that the ex-B&O crossing tower in McKeesport, PA?


Is this actually where the tracks ran through the street, or was the tower moved?  I understand that the B&O Washington-Chicago main did run through the streets there, as well as through the streets of several other Pennsylvania towns.  This was one of the reasons that the B&O bought trackage rights on the P&LE.  From what I have read, B&O did continue to use its old main for local freight traffic and some commuter trains throughout the 1960s, but I am not sure when it was finally abandoned.

Richie always opens this topic with some interesting photographs.  I look forward to them as much as I do to the modelling and other prototype photographs herein displayed.

Great work again this week guys.

We finished taking down the old layout and on Saturday we started the new bench work.  I forgot to take pic's of the new bench work but i will get some tomorrow when i am building again.

There were a whole pile of them painted for the E & N.  Double door 40ft, single door 40ft, and combination door 40ft.  You need to refer to photos for locations of such items because they seem to vary a little between cars.  I've seen them with the E&N and number way over to the right by the ladder.  Mine will have the yellow dot (is that for wheel inspections) as well.  I'm waiting for that decal set to come along with the set that has CPR numbers.  This effort was made with CDS dry transfers on clear decal paper.  I found that the transfers either didn't bond well or disintegrated with the Solvaset because the numbers all fell apart.  One of the E&N transfers was misshapen as well.  The Micro Scale CPR freight car set I ordered has the E&N marking as well so I may redo them. 

These aren't meant to be show pieces.  Just some interesting conversation pieces in my other wise very much much dark green freight car roster.

I think the crossing shanty is standing in it's original location. Look at the odd shaped buildings to the upper right and lower left of the crossing shanty in this bing map.

The odd shaped buildings are original buildings. The square and rectangle buildings built next to the odd shaped buildings are of newer construction and were built after the B&O tracks were removed.

This shot makes me want to abandon all of my plans and model where ever this is.....   That or move there and sit by the tracks all day.
