If you are just doing  mock-ups, consider using tape as much as you can.....that is what I have done...lots of.

Another clue I like is clue sticks...no mess...no waste and they work great and cheap too...

Are we talking about mock up like this one?
Everything is done with scotch tape. It is easy to make changes without re-doing them.

If we talking about heavier build mock up like this one, then I use just regular white glue I picked up in an art shop (Lineco Adhesive).

Roland, I'll be doing many contemporary structures like yours, hope I get as good.  I believe Rod Stewart said he constructed one of his taller buildings 5 times before he got it right, I'm hoping to only have to do it three times, does the card board mock up count as one....lol.

Roland, how do you get your windows cut so precisely, that part of scratch building has me the most intimidated, doing the same rectangle over and over again precisely.

Judging by the dark edges, and smoke stains on the surfaces, I would venture a guess that he uses a laser-cutter.   :)

I like the look of that laser cut building.  Any more pics? Did it get finished?

Sorry for the delay.
The building is lasercut out of Taskboard. The final building will be thin plywood with a layer of Basswood. Basswood cuts much nicer as plywood and when painted it looks like stucco. Right now, I do some pre-work on all the buildings to see if they will fit. My layout is still in the track-laying station, so no need for finished models.
It took me at least 5 tries to get everything right with all the interior walls (hotel rooms). I only had pictures and the hotel was demolished years before I started the project.

No kidding!  Roland's taskboard laser-cut mockup seems good enough to be the finished model!

Just taskboard, lasers, and a big bottle of carpenter's glue.

I agree definitely work beyound 'mock up' and they look great.  I went to Michael's to find taskboard and wasn't successful, anyone have a link so I can see what it is?

I just found a Laser Cutter Cafe in Vancouver, cutting is $2 a minute; how many minutes in your building, just trying to get an idea of rough costings for a building like yours, here in BC.

I'd go nuts if I was on a timer.  I'm sure there's a makerspace in Vancouver if there's such a great one in Victoria.  I don't time anything but it can be at least an hour or two to cut everything for a building, then re-cut what didn't work, then fiddle some more.  I'm not under the gun so just cut and fiddle and plan at a leisurely pace.  I just pay a flat $50 a month for 24h unlimited access, that's how most of them work.

At $2 a min you're getting absolutely robbed, that's insane.
