I would think that the blue was applied to the wheels before any machining was done.

Well, now; let's review this "week that was"...........

We (the "Royal we".. Rapido) tried for three days to ship HO meat reefers.... (um; minus 30C and trucks no like a da cold....) We eventually got them out.... sigh  :facepalm:

I was "just a bit involved" in some little, insignificant N scale announcement about some minor; little known Canadian GMD1 locomotive..... I hear some people might have heard of this............. ;)

But I did shoot this..............



So I guess all is right with the world.............. except the fact that in 1968 when I was 4 some idiot thought "Multi Mark" was a better idea than Canadian Pacific Railway script........ hard to believe they didn't consult with me............

Alas; another boring week..........

That image was taken at the Pine Creek Railroad in Allaire State Park, NJ. Two of those wheelsets were used to rebuild an archbar truck for CNJ caboose 91155. We completely rebuilt the truck from scratch (starting with derelict D&RGW parts) in one week, just in time for the 2013 Christmas special, to replace a truck with two bearings that had suffered catastrophic failure.













We installed it under the caboose on the coldest night of 2013. It was about 11 degrees. And yes, the blue paint is used to detect flaws in the steel.

Haha! Actually, all I was doing was keeping the truck from rolling backwards--about all I could manage in my condition.

This weekend is the Prototype Models Cocoa Beach Meet in Cocoa Beach, FL:  http://prototyperails.com/     This truly is a "Winter Nationals", i.e. the best and most famous of US model railroaders are at this annual event put on by Mike Brock and friends.

If you ever have the chance to go, you must!

A small diorama I'm working on for a guy at work to help demonstrate Civil War tactics to 7th graders.  It isn't perfect or even up to TRW standards but I'm building it from the stuff in the "eventually" box.
