New N-scale Corn Field Product

I just received the February edition of Model Railroader and in the new products section on page 18 is a very interesting looking new product from the Bluford Shops LLC. It's cornfield in injection-molded plastic with over a thousand stalks per piece. Available in summer green or autumn tan.

There's not much more info there and when I went to their website there was no mention of any kind of scenery product. Anyone know anything more about this new product?

I've heard mention of it here but no details beyond "comming soon". Pretty curious about it myself.

Missed that one. From what I've seen, it looks better than anything else I've ever seen attempted, especially if you can get the color right.

Agreed.  If I can't see it, touch it, taste it, hear it, and smell it I won't believe it. :D

The pic on page 18 looks like a 3D computer model.

Yes, this is something we are working on. There are no test shots at this point to show off. We expect to release them in Summer Green and Fall Tan. Now that it's in the new issue of MR, I'll have to put up a page on the website in the next few days. The goal was to make a cornfield that was affordable, and easy and quick to install. More news as it happens...

Hey Craig, what are the physical dimensions of an individual kit and is there a projected price? I may have to buy a lot of 'em.

I don't have the measurements in front of me but I remember that there were 54 strips of 20 cornstalks (that's 1080 cornstalks) to a package. Now that may change if the toolmaker decides to use a mold base different than the one I'm thinking of. As for price, we're shooting for about the cost of a freight car.

54 rows spaced at around 3/16" row spacing is 10 inches of corn. I imagine 20 stalks to be around 3" or so? That's a respectable amount of corn for $30 or so. Very interested to get my hands on some!
