I COULD have been excited abut the Bachmann S-4 if it had come in unpainted and unglued together.

Me too. Waiting for the Atlas S2 to fill that void.

Cheers,
-Markk

Unofficial vote tally so far -

Bachmann EM-1 - 16
Bachmann S-4 - 10
Atlas 4-4-0 - 6
Fox Valley GP60 - 6
Others - 5

Yes, rub your eyes in disbelief - two Bachmann locos are running away with the voting!  :o

Cheers,
-Mark

Oops. I hadn't voted. S-4 for me. We have been clamoring for it for many years, and kudos to Bachmann for listening.

The EM-1 is a respectable contender. The GP60 - I now have four - is a fine, fine model, but not a breakthrough, just very well done.

Bachmann modeled the EM-1 with a hood on it?!  That's it - it is instantly disqualified!

I vote for the S-4 and the Bachmann 70 tonner (don't know when it came out but it was the only new N scale purchase last year  :D).

I will have to go with the Fox Valley GP60s - Love'em!  I am waiting on the Bachmann NW2 on order -I would like to see Bachmann make some steam not so narrowly focused - I know the B&O guys love the EM, but I would be nice to have some generic stuff that could be modified to different roads - Byron

Well, the Big Emma is amazing, even though I have absolutely no need for it, I'd rate it #1.
The S-4 would be second. Both Bachmanns; who woulda thought?

The EM-1, unless I can vote for any one of Jason's creations.

Chessiefan got a Bachmann 2-8-8-4 B&O EM-1.

I was floored.  Ran about scale speed.  Smooth, quiet.  Pulled about 50 cars and may layout would hold any more (so it might have pulled more).

Detailed.

One of the best locos ever made.

What he said, the Atlas American is let down by the shallow relief on the drivers.

Atlas has already fixed the tooling for the next run.

I'll vote GP60s.  Yes, a diesel mechanism is hard to screw up, but the additional piping, frame, and add on wire details really raise the bar for locomotive detailing from the factory.  They were well executed.

Save for the Atlas steamer, some day I hope to be voting on new locos released by Kato, Atlas and Walthers, like in days of old, all in the same year. Actually, if FVM wants to pick up where LifeLike left off, that would be cool too, their releases have been too modern for my taste so far.

If Bachmann retools the EM1 into a DM&IR Yellowstone, I could be buying my first Bachmann loco in over 20 years. I won't hold my breath.
