I'm not sure the exact radius,  I think it's about 15-16 and eases into 11.  It's hidden just past the turnout.
Not much of an expert on Vancouver, been a while since I visited but I remember the abandoned chunks of track on Granville "island" .  There's also a long strip of abandoned track west of there that's a sort of long linear park and the track is embedded in a variety of materials.

Started my first ballasting... it's turning out ok and I didn't ruin the turnouts.  Just ran a train over and all I had to do was scrape out a little loose ballast and polish up my points a little.

I really want to go nuts with tufts and grass and make the scene really nice but it's something I don't have a lot of experience doing.

Doesn't look too bad from here. just be sure to get any loose pieces off of the tops of the ties and off the web of the rail. Once done, it really makes a difference.

My $.02... try to knock down some of the humps at the top of the ballasted area. Unless you are going for a freshly ballasted look, chances are vibrations (in real life) would level them out pretty quickly.

Yeah it's a bit humpy in areas I did touch-ups on.  I can probably scrape/sand it down a bit and hide with weeds.

Anyone have any good recommendations for tufts and weeds?

Instead of scraping dry ballast, which won't likely smooth out nicely, try rewetting the area and doing a light tamping.

Go over to DKS' Trenton Transportation Company layout thread.  I believe he has the information you're looking for.

Put little drops of white glue on wax paper and if you have a static grass applicator, sprinkle all of the glue drops with static grass.  Once the glue has dried, you can peel your homemade tufts from the waxpaper.

Started work on a boring old run of the mill grain elevator with PVC pipe silos.

My static grass applicator is clicking loudly and shooting sparks from inside the handle, but it still works!

I'm still pretty new to scenery stuff, so any tips are most welcome.

I'm liking your elevator and the way the building has some unusual shpaes. would like to see more when you progress. Overall, like several features you've included and enjoying watching your progress. Good job on the static grass also. I'd second looking at the DKS layout if you're wantng to see some grass in the tracks. He's a magician when it come to realism.
