Earth Movers?

Specifically I'm looking for a N scale Marion 4161 power shovel:

I haven't found anything even remotely close. Do they exist?

Where could I find plans? Seems doable for a scratchbuild.

Ideas?

Langley did a nice face shovel at one time but I don't think it is as big as Marion pictured.
It almost looks like you could start with a cab from the old Rowa 250 ton wrecking crane for a bash.

Start with a small HO crane, a little chop and channel, and work backwards from there.

Then there is always this in N.... http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/405-19100

Or this.... http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/623-2121

They may not be quite as big as your prototype though.

Chris,

Try Marks Metallclassics (sp?).  They have several versions of a fairly generic looking crane like that, and one is a shovel version.  MMC is pricey and I don't know of any stateside importers, so you'll likely have to order from Germany.  If you're thinking about ordering, let me know from who and maybe we can share shipping costs, as I have a few things I've been wanting from MMC.

Also, Herpa or one of the other Euro manufacturers did a plastic kit of a mine-sized shovel.  It looked to be on the contemporary side but may be back-datable.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Nothing I know of N-Scale for a Marion Power Shovel although I am scratch building a Marion 8200 Dragline.

This may be too modern Chris, but I can point you in the direction for a P&H XPC4100 in N-Scale.

Pricy, but pretty close to what you are looking for:

The cab would need to be modified slightly. Maybe move a door or two and add a walkway.

Yikes! 79 bucks! it's a nice model, but me thinks it's hardly worth that.
A Friend of mine gave me one a while back. It was marked $35 on the box. Still a lot for a kit that is this simple.
Anyway, Painted up and weathered, it looks pretty good for a US mining shovel and might be what you're looking for.
Here's a photo of mine in the Younkinite Pit.

That Kibri model looks promising, but the box art looks like their HO model. The N scale model has less detail. And I can find them for $30, but all out of stock  :|

Bob that dragline might be what the mine is currently using:

Any chance that does not, as it appears to, cost the price of a small actual vehicle?

Love it.  Would love to build it.  But I would bet it's in the 4-figures and probably not available in Kit form.

Chris,
That is a Bucyrus, not a Marion. This is the 8200:

Mark,
The 4100 is assembled and could be purchased in factory paint or weathered. Both of them are in my store and have about 6 pics. The list of features is just impressive for a N-Scale model of this type. I had been TRYING for two years to get P&H to release them to me for sale. Found out today that they are on the way.

The Kibri model is pretty close to what you get in the box. They are Very detailed kits, certainly the best plastic kits in N scale. I saw an open corn combine kit once and was floored by the detail. I believe these were tooled by the same designers as the Preiser tractors if that gives you any indication as to the quality.

I'll keep my eye out for you, if I see anything under $50 I'll let you know. If there re any at the Springfield show I will pick it up for you.

What I mean about the detail.

This is the HO model shown on the N scale box:
http://www.nscale-sale.nl/Webshop/products_pictures/K19100.jpg

And this is the real N scale model:
http://www.modellbahnshop-lippe.com/produkt/Kibri/43-2-0-35777-013003-0-0-0-0-0-0-grp-de-p-0/ein_produkt.html
http://www.haertle.de/Miniaturmodelle/Baumaschinen+Modelle/kibri+19100+MENCK+Bagger+mit+Hochloeffel+Bausatz+Spur+N.html

I can add some thin strips to the bucket and add the big pulley to the top of the boom. But the tracks kind of look like crap compared to the HO model.

The Kibri kit can be found for much less - http://www.ebay.com/itm/KIBRI-19100-N-MENCK-EXCAVATOR-WITH-DIPPER-BLUE-/111236478752?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item19e635f720

Though I'm thinking the crawler tracks Bob @ TrainCat markets as flat car loads might be a good start for a scratchbuild.
