Floradaboy:

I'll bet you are remembering a different kind of gas station.  Perhaps more like the country store that also sold gas.  Lots of nice kits mentioned in this thread, but I don;t see any where one could get a soda pop.

Sorry, I can't accept something with Class of 62" on it as old !!  And I seem to remember gas cost more than $0.23 per gal at the time. More like an exorbitant $0.32, perhaps.

Electricity was unavailable, unreliable, or expensive in rural areas,
How far back are we talking here (or is it a location issue??

Actually you  could've gotten a soda pop in any of the 4 gas stations shown in Marks pix; in fact, there is a coke machine (and an ice machine) at the Gulf station!  If memory serves, there's also one that comes as part of the W/S built-up.

Paul

Depots by John makes a good one - Radtke’s Filling Station. It is cast urethane but is open inside unlike some of their station models that are solid. It has decals for Shell, Mobilgas, Sinclair, Penzoil, Dixie and Phillips 66 signs.

It is listed towards the bottom of the page.

That's a good stand in for an older Deep Rock Station as well.

Here's one in Sully IA.

I have a "thing" for gas stations and have built more than I have corners for.  Several corners have more than one, the rest live on a shelf, but I keep buying them.

I heartily second the Depots by John gas station.  A fun build and very Midwestern generic.

I also really like the Blair Line Clark station from my 1960's youth. There are still a few in Springfield,IL repurposed into convenience stores.  It resides kitty corner across the intersection from my Depots by John Radtke's gas station.

I still have a scar or two from building the Miller Engineering etched brass kit but it was worth it.

You beat me to the Depots by John. Just outside of the little town I grew up in was an identical station . I will make mine into a D-X station as soon as I can find signage.

Couldn't you print your own signs on your computer?

I've never tried it. Might be a good time to learn.

Which logo are you looking to do.  I have a bunch of DX stuff.

It's usually this one:

or this one:

But there are older ones too.

Where I grew up as a kid we had a small family owned service station. Had 2 pumps under the awning and a general store inside. The owners lived in the rear of the store. The garage in this pic looks a bit more modern than I remember, but its in the same spot as the orrigional one....Mike

It would seem to me that the only gas stations available are "old timer"... Demand or not, that's a majority of whats available for gas stations in any scale isn't it?

Yeah, looking at all the replies, it seems that FloridaBoy had this kind of backwards.
