Okay, what's even cooler than that...

Look closely at that SD-35 and you'll see very faint Penn Central paint.  It's as if they used craft paint to cover the Pennsy paint and it washed off in the rain.

I may have to model this.

Looks like this thing is having an identity crisis.  It can't decide if it's a PRR, PC, or CR SD35!  I find it interesting that the PRR keystones are holding up the best out of the all of the lettering/logos.

Looks like a project for Tom Mann to take on.  Got to be one of the coolest CR engine photos I've ever seen.

Oh, someone on the site I got this off of mentioned crews using mineral oil on the keystones.

Could this be a photoshop job?  Seems a bit to neat to have all those identifying marks on the same loco (with PRR heralds being the freshest looking).

More likely someone made up some PRR heralds and stuck them on the unit.  Did the original Pennsy actually use two heralds on the same side of their locos?  I notice that the model photo only has one on the side of the short hood and one on each end.

Yes.

The other side didn't get one on the side of the nose.  From what I've learned from this forum, it was because of the box for the cab controls (did I get that right?).

OK.  A little unusual by Northwest standards, but apparently the Pennsy did it.  So much for going by the models shown in this post.  Thank you!

Yep.  That's why the PRR was called "The Standard Railroad of the World".

Those are probably 3M Scotchlite Keystones designed to survive thermonuclear warfare.  The PRR used them on a variety of equipment in the final decade.
