Began setup of the Juniata Division in its new home.  The island-style of both sections is not exactly and efficient use of space.  Plans are afoot to fix this someday soon.



The pants in the photo belong to the USAFA Cadet we sponsor...  He's still a Doolie so he has to stay in his Class As.  He's being "indoctrinated" into N scale railroading...



Just saw the new GMR at Fred Meyer and boy nice representin' (moving to Cheyenne in Jan, now I can come see it finally Dave).

...except for the people figures, which would be the most realistically-detail figures ever!  :D

Well, those were photoshopped in (along with the smoke and steam effects).  :D  Besides, I didn't say it was an N scale layout.  :P

What really stood out on that loco was the silver colored running gear - just like on N scale steam locos!

worked on a mech for a loco project I have kicking around for a while. it's suppose to be an articulate, but I don't think i can pull it off, so It's gonna have to be a rigid.

Work continues on the CMO Express Box.  I got outbid for the Pfaudler car so I just get one through Amazon for the same price as Athearn would have cost for just the trucks.

AFAIK, no one makes a 7 panel 6' Superior door that will fit this model so I'm going to bash one out of the MTL door.  I have the two options seen below.



The upper car has the 'poor man's' door.  Basically it's just shaving the top stiffener flat to the door panel and adding .020" styrene.  But this still leaves a door that's about a half a foot too wide.  The bottom door has the same top treatment, but the sides are filed down to more of a scale width and .015" styrene added (plus some .010" for the lip on the right side).

And while  the bottom door is scale width, it doesn't look quite right.  I don't know if the tack board is oversized or if the styrene I used is slightly too thick, but I'm not totally happy with the spacing.  I think something just a bit wider will look the part.

I'm also trying to figure out the Brake Valve/Cylinder fabrication.  I may look to Shapeways for this.

Continuing progress on building Pete Nolan's great Harbor Cruise ship kit.  The second side is now glued on, the front and rear bulkheads are attached and the top deck is test fit ready to be glued later this afternoon.  The pilot house and funnel are not attached but its fun to see how the next steps will develop.

Not a whole lot of modeling done this weekend, at least that is readily noticeable.  More trees and bushes along the river and front edge.  Spent most of the day Saturday at the Neuse River Valley Model Railroad Club sponsored, Model Train & Railroadiana Show in Raleigh.  I will post some pictures later with some scenes I thought were interesting and really well done.






Also, thinking of putting another type of ballast on top of what I already currently have.  I'm using the Kato ballast, but am considering the Scenic Express #50 Blended Ballast.  Below is the comparison shot.  The ballast was thrown on for comparison purposes only, so it doesn't look very tidy, but you get the idea.  What do you guys think?  The Kato ballast is in the foreground, in case anyone was wondering.

I'm partial to the look of the Scenic Express ballast in that scene David.
The entire layout is very striking no matter which way you decide to go though.  Great job.

The Monon car is a 10' car.  The one I'm building is 10'6".  I happened to have a bunch of the MTL doors around so they were easy to experiment with.  I may be able to modify the top the same way as the MTL door which would save me a bunch of work.  Hopefully I have one in my stash as I don't hold too much hope that they'd have them anymore.  I sure wish they still carried parts.  A lot of these old kits have the wrong parts sprues in them (some even have the wrong bodies  :RUEffinKiddingMe:).
