Seriously, is off-topic pettiness really going to get another one of Jason's threads locked while he's trying to do a phenomenal service to the n scale community?  Can we please stay on topic here.

Well towlie, it has everything to do with a non brass, but VERY detailed shell for your lovely "modelling" talent to slap on a chassis that you can pick up for $100 give or take. Did i go too far with the "modelling" part? Im just helping you guys (SPF) see how you are and am by no means mucking up a thread. Youd be surprised that some of my "modelling" is in jasons castings.

As for off topic pettiness, why cant i lock up a thread when you guys always seem to do it with your lack of a RTR K4 rants. Is that at all biased?

Legitimate discussion about disappointing demand is one thing.  Taunting condescension is another.  And yes, there are many folks out there unwilling to do the work on a resin casting who still want an RTR K4. We can question their committment or modeling skills to ourselves, but it doesn't change the fact that many still demand an RTR K4, especially in light of how many other road-specific steamers are now RTR.

I have kitbashed multiple PRR steamers as have many, many others, so don't lump all SPFs together as an RTR crowd.  We're some of the most anal kitbashers out there.

Play nice.

Jason, I'm sorry the K4 was a disappointment.  My question is still valid, though...  How much play did it get outside of the Railwire?  I'd like to get it on the PRR N Scale Yahoo group if you still have some around.

No problem Dave, I should have done a little more research, which is why I am throwing it out there on the M1.  I produce the castings simple to try and expand the hobby and keep some models alive.  For those who build your own engine... there is no greater satisfaction in the hobby

Honestly, you have to laugh at the few times people make fun of the whole "we want a K4 and we want it NOW" due to the overwhelming people that get pissy. Jason and i had numerous conversations about the K4 among every other resin shell he brings out and i honestly found it funny how few actually sold for the "demand".



Heres a couple of my "modelling" 2 are kitbashes on GS4 mechs and the start of all the fun. the other 2 northerns are brass.

but, this still doesn't prevent me from asking for the K4. So.....

As for I1s, I have what very well may be the very last unused Camden & Amboy Models conversion shell for the minitrix Decapods.
Just needs a bit of cleanup and it's good to go, if I can find a cheap chassis...

Jason, I don't have a dog in this hunt.  But I am thinking of some other modeling considerations.
Those siderod bearings on the J are big Timken roller-bearing type.  I think that would take more than filing to
fix and it would really stand out as weird looking on a PRR M1 if it wasn't.

How about the tender length on the J?   Is it long enough?  The long-distance tenders on the M1 were long.
Would it require stretching the tender floor?

So there are some challenges to this, but I do think it would make a nice M1.

I have a J myself and it is a good running engine.  I bought it for kitbash
fodder years ago and have never had quite the right project that needed it.  It ran nice right out of the box when I tested it,
and that doesn't happen often.

Rods are very easy to file, here are the files rods from my Mt4 build. I could have done more filing and shaping to the rods but I was happy with this (it only took about 10 minutes per side). And on just about every build I do the tender has to shortened or lengthened. The only real problem I see would be the crosshead..  But some compromises are worth it.
