I mentioned these in the mini-box thread, but they really need their own thread. Somewhat less iconic than the smooth side NSC newsprint boxcar, these 70 ton cars are just as necessary for those modeling CDN roads circa 1980+ (this release is all cars BLT 1989 and up), or US roads that interchanged with the CDN roads - CN, BCR, Ont. Northland all had them.

Too new for me, but definitely worth having if you model 1980+.  The 1979 BCIT and NAR cars would be nice to see too.

As I asked in the other minibox thread, where can a guy preorder? Looking at the dealers on TLT's list, the one's I'd be most likely to use don't seem to list this on their webpages anywhere.  Makes it hard for a guy to commit fundage . . . .

Just send a check to Darren in Canada... one of us will forward it, eh  ;)

I emailed them to voice my support in lieu of being able to pre-order.

Tim

Would those be the double door cars that Jeff Briggs did?

Those are hot. I'd be interested in a few pre-85 schemes when they get done.

The ad says it's 1989 and after.  It also says that it will get produced if the demand warrants it.  Seems to me that if the tooling is complete, which is what the situation appears to be with the photo of the pilot model, that they should just release the model as that money is spent already.  Guess we'll see the prototype model in Springfield in January.

It appears the couplers are body-mounted in the pilot model photo.  Is that how high they ride?

Looks like an HO Kadee coupler to me.  ;)

BCOL, BCIT, and some CN cars were built in 1980. The pilot model shown is the HO one (also the 1980 built model with angled post at door) that is being produced, and judging from the proto shot below, the HO model rides too high.

The paint scheme of choice (for me anyways)...

I threw my hat into the ring in support of producing the car.   Not something I need a dozen of, but I'll pick up 2-3 for variety in manifest freights.

The later model car that TLT is proposing to do first. A year outside my era on this car (1990), but I'm good at looking the other way... love on ONT scheme.

Didn't CP have cars similar to these in newsprint service?

Yup. Not a freightcar guru, so if they're not exact I'm not the one to point out the differences, though these two examples have angled posts on either side of the door while the model and CNIS have the angled post on one side of the door only.

Shameless self promotion... 1980 built date:
