Hey all.
  AS some of you know,I have quit a few hobbies.I was having a conversation With Max Magliaro,and suddenly,the lightbulb lit up..I'm looking for a few small motors myself,and I realized I already have a pile of them in old,damaged RC car servos.Some of the best electric motors made are in RC servos.They take horrible abuse,and have to have consistent start/stop/reverse performance.A servo never runs more than a hundred or so revolutions before it stops,and every time it it changes direction,it gets instantly slammed in reverse hundreds/thousands of times every time the car/aircraft gets driven.They have bulletproof comms,and every decent one I've seen had a 5 pole armature..You can get small servos online for less than ten bucks.Of course,the better the servo,the better the motor..I have Futaba servos that have HUNDREDS of hours on them,some are 40 years old.They're suitable for model RR applications also,since they all run on 6 volts..At one time,I was a pro HO slotcar racer,I used old Cox/Jerobee 5 pole armatures in my cars..You can buy servos that are only slightly larger than a sugar cube,TINY motors..
  Also,servos can be used as gearboxes for certain projects.I rip out the board and potentiometer from burned out servos,[circuit board,never the motor..]and cut the stop block out of the output gear.I've used them on the weight transfer unit on my pullers,on my big truck,it will lift the five pound transfer weight straight up!!

Cool. It's not clear which motor you're talking about in the photo, tho'. I mostly see four honkers ready to blast this thing into orbit.

Mike,the gutted servo is the red gearbox hooked to the chain with the gold feet on it.It's there to move the red block hooked to the chain,a 5+ pound solid lead block that keeps the chassis balanced..It has Cat steering,too..That's actually a REALLY big servo.Kemtron? Oh yeah..Had a job offer from Parma once..

Richie,this setup would be more suitable for that,Small belt drive from a four wheel drive RC car.A servo would be great to hook to a turntable drive,already 40:1 gearing or so..Actually,look at old flatbed scanners for a transfer table.Small cables,all running through pulley,practically a ready made transfer table,all ball bearing and nylon guides running on steel rods..Even has cables that follow the scanner bar for power.I have a few stashed.I'm going to use one for a Kibri powered container crane I have,so it can move along as well as pick up containers.
