I will give it Aussie lodgings ...... but no wood, no metal packaging, simple foam insert with the jewel case in the small USPS box is best. Any wood will be collected by boarder control (we call them customs) and destroyed, they are very strict here about that, and metal containers will be opened and inspected. Keeping it simple and effective with the packaging will also prove to be the most cost efficient when it comes to shipping.

It is off limits to you because you only have 11 posts. The thread is in the Crew Lounge.  IIRC, you need 30 posts in order to see that forum.

BTW, why do we have 2 separate threads on 2 separate forums about this?   Yeah, I know, this one is discussing shipping options. Still...  :|

It seemed to be the best option since this topic deals with the car (and shipping for a time) and the other is purely for getting on the interchange route.

I wouldn't mind hosting it here in the Pacific Northwest but I don't have enough posts! Wait I am one post closer now. At the rate I post maybe next year. LOL

Issue with signup thread:
"The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you."

It is off limits to you because you only have 11 posts. The thread is in the Crew Lounge.  IIRC, you need 30 posts in order to see that forum.

Looks like I need about 18 more posts

The Crew Lounge trigger is 25 posts.  In any case, I suspect that Cody is keeping track of interest on both threads.

I`d say count me in but the high doubt of a layout in the for seeable future makes me say no (dang air force :()

I wouldn't count out a layout due to the USAF...I was in almost 10 years, never had a layout, yet hosted Lil Puddy, plus there are NTrak/N scale clubs/groups everywhere.  Plus you'd be amazed at how many military people are model railroaders.  Just gotta find them...if you ever get stationed at Elmendorf AFB, AK, there is a club on base...and really close to the dorms.

If you print the mailing label and pay the postage online (like I do), they give a discount.  That is how I ship most stuff (now I can even pay for international shipping online).

And ship USPS...because I like having a job...

No problem here. I actually prefer USPS to UPS or FedEx.  Not only Priority Mail is usually cheaper (for N scale items) than UPS ground, it gets delivered anywhere in the US in couple of days (vs. up to a week for UPS ground).  The tracking info is also getting better and better.

I also experienced less damage to the shipments when using USPS vs. UPS.  All in all a wining combination.

I also like USPS the best . I have an agreement with the USPS and UPS man as they are regulars . FEDEX on the other hand is almost always a different person , and most of the time puts package on the steps WITHOUT ringing the bell and runs away . Even if they ring the bell and I get to the door 4 seconds they are almost in their truck , that they so recklessly wheel around at unsafe speeds .

I co-ordinated the travels of three "traveling cars" on nScale.net. One went around the world on a two year+ journey and made it safely back to me. A second was gone almost two years and made it back. The third is among the missing (though I know exactly where it is) and has been out of contact for 15 months.  Two out of three ain't too bad odds.  I have also participated in several other "traveling XX" operations and have enjoyed doing so.  The idea is a good one.  We also discovered the quickest, cheapest, and most reliable shipping method was through USPS.  By shipping Priority Mail, there is tracking which works not only as proof of shipping but proof of receipt.

USPS is getting better in the package business.  Most of the carriers now have a cell phone tagged to the scanner, so every 15 minutes or so, the scanner dumps all the data to the phone to get updated online.

Plus UPS, DHL, and FedEx use USPS to deliver so many packages.  I'd say about 4 out of every 5 packages I deliver started as UPS, DHL or FedEx.  And here in Spokane, we use FedEx to ship most of our mail out of town.  Its kinda odd how everyone uses each other...but gotta say, love the flat rate boxes, makes shipping so much easier.

I now have a tube for the journey log, and a fresh USPS Small Flat Rate Box.
I'm working on a simplistic format for the log.

Want evidence?
Here's the box after I had a few minutes to screw around with it:

Needless to say the purpose of this box is quite clear to any  :ashat:

That box won't cause any problems in the mail system with all of the adornment?

Six pages of posts to figure out a box?  It reminds me of the joke about how many model railroaders it takes to screw in a light bulb...
