Do it any way you want as long as the result will fit in a (free) USPS Priority Mail Small Flat Rate box...about $5.25 in the US with tracking free.

I recently sent a Priority Mail Small Flat Rate box to Canada, cost $19.95 and tracking info is emailed to you...It cleared Customs today...

USPS gives Small Flat Rate boxes for free.  Cut two Extruded foam bits to wedge the jewel case in, stuff the original box with a few pre-printed return labels, and send it off.

Receiver can either open the box carefully and re-use or get a new box for free, slap one of the provided return labels on, and address to the next person.

When TBX 3401 went across the pond, I just had the last American ship it back to me, and I sent it off myself. Flat rate it was like 18 bucks or something.  It would be nice if someone willing and able would volunteer (Cody is already donating the car and all), but if no one wants to be the guy to ship it overseas, just do it yourself. :)

I also recommend the small flat rate boxes....fairly cheap to ship, easy to come by( as long as this cars journey doesn't outlast the post office!).....and make sure it crosses the borders as little as possible, and visits as many as possible in that country before leaving for another......

An idea.....Maybe keep a thread in best of, and update it with "car received from, car shipped to, car handed off in person to.."....would make it easier to track down...I don't think that would be too much to ask for the privilege of hosting the car..

Just my 2 cents

I too agree with the USPS flat rate boxes.  $5.25 with tracking included.  As with many other things in model railroading and in life, the KISS methodology applies here.  Don't over think or over engineer things.

It's now $5.80 for a small, flat rate box.

Hmm... not that Kiz
is complaining...

The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

If you print the mailing label and pay the postage online (like I do), they give a discount.  That is how I ship most stuff (now I can even pay for international shipping online).

" So what happen to the car? The last update about it was October 7. " End of thread.

Don't mean to be a killjoy, but it took me months to track down the original Atlas forum and Trainboard forum cars (prior to the 2010 car). I paid for them to be returned out of my own pocket, and sent them on. I lost some friends on Atlas and Trainboard because of the search, and my tactics.

I had a similar experience with the second Atlas forum car. (the boxcar)  Didn't get any death threats, but might as well have.  And I wasn't the one that it stopped/disappeared at...I was just managing the list.  Pretty unbelievable behavior out of some folks.

Everything is "simple" until it's not.

Y'all have fun with it...as one poster said...if it disappears, let it be.   There's no value to the car and if somebody feels they have to keep it then that's on them.   And most likely if it disappears it's due to the postal service.
NOTE: I'm no longer active on this forum.   If you need to contact me, use the e-mail address (or visit the website link) attached to this username.  Thanks.

I can't believe all this digit jawing over what a member will ship it out in . People will reuse or not reuse the box it came in . People will buy a box or packet or reuse one the have as they wish . Almost all of us have sent trains in the mail , and all of us have gotten trains in the mail . The a$$hat that doesn't , or know how to ship will lose his hat in members eyes . If it ever is received damaged do to unreasonable packaging expect all of the forumites to come over and give you a wet kiss , ewww  :scared:

I asked for opinions. I got opinions.
I'd rather have the input of those involved rather than just do as I please and end up ruining the fun for everyone.

The majority wants just a plain-jane box, and a plain-jane box they shall have.

I'm in too.  And should it be hand-delivered by another  :ashat: , it would be an excuse for an impromptu operating session...

An Important update and question for those involved:

The car is stripped of 95% of its paint.
The car is close to being ready for transit over the Ashland & Sycamore Hill.

My questions to the group:

Does anyone have an aluminium cigar tube for which the physical journey-log to be stored?
I thought I had one buried amongst my stuff, but I think it may have been among my scrap pile that I junked before Bedford...

After the car is carried over the ASH on November 2nd, it will go out in the mail hopefully on the following Tuesday or Thursday if I don't have too many college assignments (I have to make trips to the actual post office to ship things).

It is off limits to you because you only have 11 posts. The thread is in the Crew Lounge.  IIRC, you need 30 posts in order to see that forum.

BTW, why do we have 2 separate threads on 2 separate forums about this?   Yeah, I know, this one is discussing shipping options. Still...  :|
