Atlas Parts Availability Decreasing?

Noticed there's a new layout on the online catalog and also noticed that, at the moment anyway, it appears there's quite a decrease in at least loco parts availability. I'm hoping that everything has just not been listed into the new system. If not, some repair and kitbash projects I had planned just became a lot more complicated. :? Anyone know any more info on this?

Best option is to call Atlas directly to ascertain parts availability if you don't see the desired parts available online.

I recently emailed the parts dept about undecorated (or decorated) shells for B40-8W and C40-8(W) and they didn't have them. I've heard the GP38-2 parts are also short. I guess the days of getting a complete undec shell for under $10 is gone.

The last year or two at the old factory, getting parts was a hit or miss situation.  With the new factory, parts orders are placed with every production run, so the parts inventory should improve as we start getting more and more locomotives in.

As Brian said, if you are looking for something and don't see it on line, call or email our customer service department.  We have moved to a new software platform for our online store, and in theory everything should have transferred over that was in the old system, but we have found there are things that didn't as they should have, so it is possible we have something that is not listed (or for some reason, the "show online" button is turned off) so it is best to ask.

I would never have believed that getting parts from our facility in China coud be so difficult but at Rapido we often don't get all the parts we ask for/order - if you order "x" number of cars then the "logic" at the factory seems to be make "x" number of componant parts - asking for 100 extra "XXX part" seems to flumix the flux capacitor of the system..... beats me why but it does.....sigh.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Paul, it's good to see your response. Parts availability has always been one of the outstanding features of Atlas.

Have they ever had the C40 shells?

I sold one of my shells to an a$$hat when they first came out, assuming I could replace it at some point in the future.  I check periodically but have never found any on there at all.

No idea. I have a Conrail C40-8 and would like to get a UP C40-8 or C40-8W). Looks like the easiest, but longest shot, would be posting a shell swap proposal. Or just flat out sell the CR to buy a UP.

Cause it's out of the realm of the norm. Order X number, get X number. They need the exact amount of parts to build the exact amount of whatever. Extras will just cause confusion. And it's not specific to any region. I deal with panic out of the norm everyday, but sometimes it's fun to drag people out of their comfort zone.

At least when you have everything in one building, it's easier to stand there and have the guy make 100. "Don't ask, just trust me.."

I'm finding the world is running out of sets of SD26 cab glass. That is going to make my GP chop jobs a little more difficult.

I've noticed the same problem.

I gave up searching for windows and just started using Microscale's Micro Kristal Klear for making windows.  Used it on engine cabs and this latest pair of GHQ garbage trucks.  More then happy with the results.

Dee, the scientist...

Hmm... there are about
7 billion people on earth,
all using natural resources
that are being depleted. It
follows that availability of
parts will decrease...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
