For this one I didn't mention Railwire by name since MR has its own competing forum.

MR has a forum?

It is certainly not directed at the same audience as is the Railwire.  I used to be very active over there but after a while it became an attaboy fest.  There is a very wide spectrum of talent over there ranging from extreme beginner to museum quality.  I eventually drifted away for a few reasons, primarily due to its overt HO focus.

That said it serves its purpose very well, which is not the same purpose we have here.

MR's forum is not at all intended for the same audience or purpose as railwire.

Dave,
I congratulate you on a tremendous accomplishment!   There are thousands of layouts out there, and to have yours
be chosen as good enough (from a modeler's standpoint), appealing enough (to the mass market), and interesting enough
(to readers of a magazine who may be serious or casual) is quite a feat.

You do have an excellent layout.

I gave mad props to Railwire in my N Scale Mag feature.   :scared:

Ha! Wrong. There IS NO COMPETITION. Prolly less bacon, too.

My copy arrived today.

Very nice work Dave, and a very well-written article as well.  Your work is truly an inspiration.

Congratulations Dave.   My big  :ashat:'s off to ya.

Your layout specifically along with Max's locomotives (and your own of course) inspired me to do what I have done. Not much compared to so many others, but imagining my works running on something like the JD is what my dream has always been.  I know that likely I will never create anything close to the JD,  but at least I can live vicariuosly here on RW, and especially here:

Congrats, Dr. Dave! I can't wait to get the opportunity to see it in person.

So did I see somewhere that you are now just up the Interstate from me? I know a few N scalers that could visit.

I am...  North side of Colorado Springs.

Nothing to see yet...  The layout is now in the basement, but still crated awaiting the room's final trim and electrical.

Dave,

Your layout has served as an inspiration of just how "doable" it can be to model dual eras of the same line too.

There is a top notch HO layout off Woodman road to the west. Part of the Southern Colorado operations group. Bob Foltz's Santa Fe layout. Beautiful and fun to operate. Great guy, for an HOer. He's operating this Saturday, in fact.

Sounds great, but this Saturday I'll be at Falcons Stadium watching Air Force play Notre Dame.  Unfortunately I don't have high hopes for the outcome...

Yeah, them Falcons are trying to fly with a 3rd string quarterback.
If you want to operate some time go here:  http://rockyrail.org/   then click on South and then on Session Calendar. There is an op session most weekends, usually on Saturday but an occasional Friday night. The D&RGW layout is almost as nice as Bob Foltz's. Foltz's was the featured layout in MR a year or two ago. The others are works in progress. All HO. They rag on the 2 N scalers a bit but all in fun. We give as good as we get.

There are also a number of layouts in the south part of Denver but they don't use the website. One is N, Pat Lana's CRANDIC. We alternate with the North with an ops weekend every year. Our turn to host in 2014. First weekend in May, I think.

Since Roger mentioned Pat's CRANDIC layout, he is having an open house on Saturday November 16th for those in Denver and surrounding areas.  Paul Brennecke is also opening up his Grand Road layout, which is beautifully done with lots of detail.  If you PM your e-mail address, I will forward the specific information on to you.
