Weekend Update 10/6/13

I didn't get much modeling done this week but did snag this 27 car lot of NS, NW, and SOU rolling stock. The deal was too good to let it pass by.

I had a spare Atlas GP40 shell in CN (unnumbered) then I came across a photo of the 4007. I swapped out the nose with one with nose-lights and painted it to match, added the brake wheel, filled the lights between the number boards and added the bell. Then I built a couple of snowshields and painted the handrails.  I added the decals for the cab number and number boards then added a builders plate on the sidesill. I also added the "F" and "R" and the "Caution No Footboards" to the sidesill. Hit everything with dullcote. Fun project and I don't really model the CN. Pic is from my camera phone.


I also had a GTW GP40-2 shell and decided to add some details to it. Nothing major, but I painted the handrails white, added a plow and some mu hoses. I also painted the horns so they weren't so shiny. Added the builders plate and the "Caution No Footboards" which are located in the stepwell area. Hit it all with dullcote.

I picked up one of David from bmthtrains' Shapeways Harsco Switch and Crossing rail grinders and it showed up the other day.  Dispite being 1:148 (British N Gauge) it looks like it will fit pretty well into the 1:160 world due to MOW equipment being odd sized. I need to let it soak to get the wax off and then start adding some details like US horns and prepping for lights.

It requires two Tomytec TM-04 motorized frames....which I am having a hard time finding even at PlazaJapan. Anyone know of a knockoff of this motor or like?

What they were built for:



12,000 horses lead a mile of trailers with a pair of Super Fleet GP60s on the point.  The dynamics are howling as this northbound drops down the hill.



The locos are as they appear on the prototype - 129 wears the big BNSF while 147 is patched in white.



These were a worthy addition to the Sub's motive power and were worth waiting for.  Way to go, Matt!

Hang in there. The PlazaJapan listings changes over time, and this chassis may reappear. You might also consider contacting them to see if they have any in stock not listed in their eBay store.

The line along Kootenay Lake is nearly complete.  The last remaining thing is to scratchbuild the small telephone shack at Troup.

Not much modelling time for me this weekend, but earlier in the week I made some progress on the underframe for BCOL coach 6508 with the addition of cross-members, and mounts for the brake cylinders and triple valves:




Next item on my list is the pair of Pullman vestibule steps.
